Vietnamese doctor honored and awarded honorary professorship in the US

Recently, Associate Professor, Dr. Cung Hong Son - Deputy Director of the Central Eye Hospital, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hong Son Eye Hospital System was honored to receive the Honorary Professorship from International American University within the framework of the 20th Anniversary Celebration and Graduation Ceremony of the School.

This is an important international recognition after many years of his tireless dedication to ophthalmology treatment, training and research, especially in the context of Vietnam gradually integrating and improving the quality of medical services according to global standards.

The award ceremony took place solemnly with the presence of Prof. Dr. Richard.H.Gayer - Academic Director of American International University; Dr. Ryan Doan - President of American International University, Dr. Jeff Lo - Rector of American International University at San Jose campus; Ms. La Thi Dieu Mai - representative of American International University in Vietnam... with the participation of 17 outstanding scientists , managers, businessmen from Vietnam and more than 300 2025 graduates of the school worldwide.

Associate Professor, Dr. Cung Hong Son is one of the leading experts in ophthalmology in Vietnam. He has studied and worked at major hospitals such as Jules Gonin Eye Hospital and CHUV Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland; Bristol Eye Hospital, University of Bristol, Western Eye Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital in London (UK); and Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon (USA).

He is currently the only doctor in Vietnam who is capable of performing good surgery on the anterior and posterior parts of the eyeball. Up to now, he has directly performed more than 250,000 eye surgeries, including over 120,000 Phaco cataract surgeries, over 120,000 refractive surgeries and tens of thousands of retinal, glaucoma, and trauma surgeries...

Notably, in January 2023, he was honored to receive the Ziemer Prize in Switzerland and was recognized as the first doctor in the world to successfully perform 6,000 myopia - astigmatism surgeries using the CLEAR method.

He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hong Son Eye Hospital System - a high-tech hospital model with synchronized equipment according to European standards. This is also a pioneer in implementing myopia - astigmatism surgery using CLEAR and SMILE Pro methods, and is also an official practice facility for students of Hanoi Medical University, regularly organizing international seminars, integrating training - research - practice in the same ecosystem specializing in ophthalmology.

Being awarded an Honorary Professorship in the US is not only an honor for Associate Professor, Dr. Cung Hong Son personally, but also an affirmation of the stature of the Vietnamese medical team in the eyes of international friends. This is also a source of inspiration for many generations of young doctors to continue their journey of serving public health, with knowledge, technique and heart.
