Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, former head of the literature group at Giong Ong To High School, Ho Chi Minh City, a member of the Good Books for Primary School Students project, shared: "We have been implementing the Good Books for Primary School Students project for nearly 10 years. The project was founded by Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Hien (former literature teacher at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City - PV) in 2016. Up to now, we have set foot in many provinces and cities across the country. We do not go out of charity but because of the responsibility and mission of teachers who want children in all parts of the country to have access to the light of knowledge.
We have visited 157 districts in 37 provinces and cities across the country, giving away many different types of books, selected from many prestigious publishers. We always think that children from the plains or remote mountainous areas have the right to access knowledge."
Since then, the Good Books for Primary School Students project has donated books to more than 3,000 schools.
"Every time we give books, we interact with students. We connect with 157 districts to organize 157 seminars on the role of books to spread reading culture.
Our joy and motivation is the bright eyes of students when receiving books, the bright eyes of teachers when having books to conduct reading sessions in school" - Ms. Diep emotionally said.
At the ceremony, 14 best works and authors from across the country were awarded prizes in the "Beloved Teacher" and "Kindness Around Us" contests. In addition, the organizers also honored characters emerging from the written pages with live and online exchanges.
The total prize value of the two contests is more than 200 million VND. In which, the first prize of each contest is worth 30 million VND.
According to the editorial board of Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, the two writing contests have two different topics but have in common the spreading of beautiful values in life, arousing the spirit of sharing, and motivating many people.
