According to TomsHardware , technology group Baidu has introduced two artificial intelligence (AI) models, ERNIE 4.5 and ERNIE X1. Of these, ERNIE X1 is Baidu's first model specifically designed for tasks requiring complex reasoning, suitable for the fields of finance, law and data analysis.

Baidu also announced that its conversational platform ERNIE Bot is now available for free to all users earlier than expected. The company said the accelerated launch was due to improved production capacity and optimization of the AI model. The decision was made to expand its reach and gather user feedback to improve the product.
Among the two new models, ERNIE 4.5 is considered a significant step forward for Baidu in the field of multimodal AI. This model is capable of processing different types of data such as text, images, audio and video simultaneously, helping to improve the ability to understand, create content and infer. One of the notable improvements of ERNIE 4.5 is the ability to reason logically and programmatically, solving previous limitations in these areas.
Internal evaluations show that ERNIE 4.5 delivers comparable performance to DeepSeek-R1 at half the implementation cost, making ERNIE 4.5 an attractive option for enterprises looking to implement advanced AI without incurring a huge cost burden.
Baidu plans to integrate ERNIE 4.5 and ERNIE X1 into its product ecosystem, including Baidu Search. For enterprise customers and developers, ERNIE 4.5 is already available via API on the Baidu AI Cloud Qianfan cloud platform, while ERNIE X1 is expected to launch in the near future.
