Delegates attending the conference observed a minute of silence to commemorate the great journalist, President Ho Chi Minh and the martyr journalists who sacrificed for the Vietnamese revolutionary cause, beautifying the Vietnamese revolutionary press in general and Ca Mau in particular.

Towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's revolutionary press, on the morning of May 23, the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee, Ca Mau Newspaper, and Ca Mau Provincial Journalists Association organized a workshop with the theme "Ca Mau Revolutionary Press - Glorious historical milestones".

Speaking at the workshop, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, Ho Trung Viet, affirmed that the workshop "Ca Mau Revolutionary Press - Glorious historical milestones" is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. This is one of the practical and important activities, aiming to educate the tradition and historical mission of the province's revolutionary press through the periods and draw lessons to serve the revolutionary cause in the new period; raise awareness of the vanguard role on the ideological - cultural front, political mettle, and social responsibility of the revolutionary press; discuss, propose, and recommend solutions to enhance the revolutionary character, professionalism and professional ethics, social responsibility, and civic duty of the current press team.

Affirming the vanguard role

Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Luan raised issues related to State management of the development of local press in the new situation, emphasizing the need to change awareness in providing information to the press.

In his opening speech at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tien, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, affirmed that Ca Mau is a land of outstanding people, a place steeped in a resilient revolutionary tradition, which has marked brilliant pages in the two great resistance wars of the nation. On this land rich in identity, revolutionary journalism has sprouted, developed and always accompanied the cause of national liberation, national unification, national defense and the cause of building an increasingly rich, civilized, developed and integrated homeland.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tien, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, shared content related to building a team of journalists who are both red and professional, meeting the requirements of modern journalism development.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tien said that throughout the two resistance wars and the renovation period, Ca Mau press has continuously grown, always accompanying the revolutionary cause of the Party Committee and the people of the province. Accordingly, this conference is not only an opportunity to review traditions, but also a valuable opportunity to arouse and promote the endogenous strength of the press in the renovation and integration process. This special event is an important milestone, affirming a century of resilience and vanguard on the political and ideological front of the Party Committee and the people of Ca Mau province.

In his opening speech at the workshop, Journalist Ngo Minh Toan, Editor-in-Chief of Ca Mau Newspaper, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association of Ca Mau province, said that the revolutionary press of Ca Mau has played a good role as a sharp ideological weapon, promptly propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, reflecting the fighting, working and studying life of the local army and people. Not only informing and encouraging the spirit of resistance, but also contributing to orienting public opinion, raising political awareness and belief in the final victory. In peacetime, the press continues to play an important role in the cause of socio-economic development, maintaining national defense and security, building a strong Party and political system.

“Reviewing the formation and development of the Vietnamese revolutionary press over 100 years, it can be affirmed that with confidence, pride and enthusiasm, the Ca Mau revolutionary press has continuously grown, asserting its pioneering role on the political and ideological front of the provincial Party Committee, going through meaningful historical periods, making important, worthy and glorious contributions to the struggle and development of the Vietnamese revolutionary press and the Vietnamese people”, affirmed Journalist Ngo Minh Toan.

The glorious journey

Proud of the glorious revolutionary tradition of Ca Mau journalism, Journalist Ngo Minh Toan briefly outlined each stage of formation and development. In the pre-uprising period, there were many rich and powerful journalistic activities in the province, with indelible marks, laying a solid foundation for the development of Ca Mau revolutionary journalism in the following historical periods.

During the long resistance war against French colonialism, cultural and press activities took place vigorously with the combination of higher-level and local press agencies. Typically, in 1947, the Provincial Party Committee launched the newspaper Chien, the voice of the Provincial Party Committee, promptly transmitting information, reflecting the emulation movement and encouraging the fighting spirit of cadres, soldiers and people.

Journalist Nguyen Duy Hoang, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association of Bac Lieu province, former Editor-in-Chief of Bac Lieu Newspaper, affirmed that the history of journalism is an inseparable part of the history of the Party Committee of Ca Mau - Bac Lieu province.

After the Geneva Agreement in 1954, the revolutionary press in Ca Mau switched to secret activities, adapting to the new situation. After the Dong Khoi uprising in 1960, the Press - Literature and Arts Subcommittee was established, publishing the newspaper Chien (later renamed Ca Mau Giai Phong) and the Literature and Arts Magazine Lua Vang. The outstanding mark of the revolutionary press in Ca Mau during this period demonstrated its strong pioneering role, contributing to the overall victory of the province and the whole country in the resistance war against the US to save the country.

After the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, Ca Mau press entered a new phase, focusing on the task of stabilizing the socio-political situation and economic reform and development. Under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, Ca Mau press has made breakthrough developments, demonstrating the growth of various forms of mass media.

With “Ca Mau revolutionary press - confident, proud on the ideological front”, Journalist Pham Van Tri (former Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association of Ca Mau province) depicted the formation, history and achievements of Ca Mau press, including famous individual highlights, such as journalists, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces: Phan Ngoc Hien, Nguyen Mai, Tran Ngoc Hy. Journalist Pham Van Tri concluded: From the dawn of the revolution and through the stages of struggle, Ca Mau province's revolutionary press has always been present side by side with the Party and the People, becoming a shock force fighting selflessly for the ideal goals of the Party and the revolution. In that long-term struggle, the press devoted all its faith, enthusiasm, devoted all its intellectual vitality and blood to the revolutionary cause.

In his closing speech at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association of Ca Mau province, affirmed that the papers presented at the conference and sent to the workshop will be a valuable source of information for Ca Mau press to continue to improve information content, innovate propaganda forms, improve the quality of information and propaganda, in line with the spirit of serving the Party Committee, government and people of the province in the new situation.
