At 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, November 6, the center of storm Kalmaegi was about 90km east-southeast of Quy Nhon ( Gia Lai ). The strongest wind near the center of the storm was level 14 (150-166km/h), gusting to level 17.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that due to the impact of storm Kalmaegi, waves were over 3 meters high on the coast of Quy Nhon (Gia Lai). It is forecasted that when the storm makes landfall in Quang Ngai - Gia Lai from about 6-10 p.m. tonight, waves could be up to 6 meters high.
"In addition to very strong winds, the storm also causes big waves and rising sea levels along the coast of Da Nang - Khanh Hoa provinces due to coinciding with high tides, posing a very high risk of capsizing boats and rafts along the coast of these provinces.
Local authorities and people need to pay close attention because storm Damrey made landfall in the old Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa in 2017, although its intensity was not as strong as storm Kalmaegi, its waves caused great damage to people, boats, and rafts," Mr. Hien emphasized.
