More archaeological finds…

Dong Nai is considered one of the localities with ancient culture with many archaeological sites dating back thousands of years. Recent surveys and excavations have discovered many valuable artifacts, contributing to clarifying the development history of this land.

On March 10, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DTC) chaired and coordinated with relevant units to organize a meeting to survey the archaeological discovery site in Hamlet 2, Binh Son Commune (Long Thanh District). The archaeological discovery site is part of the Long Thanh International Airport Project, phase 2, expected to begin implementation from 2027-2030. The location of the above site is currently under the management of Dong Nai because the land handover procedure to Vietnam Airports Corporation has not been completed.

According to the survey, the initial assessment of the archaeological discovery site has many similarities with the type of circular earthwork relics discovered in Binh Phuoc province and Cambodia, dating back to about 3,000-3,900 years ago. However, to determine whether this site belongs to the type of circular earthwork archaeological site or not, it is necessary to conduct further surveys, exploratory excavations, and archaeological excavations to accurately determine the type, characteristics, nature, and value of the above archaeological site.

On April 15, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism reported the survey results to the Provincial People's Committee; at the same time, it recommended and proposed that the Provincial People's Committee approve the policy for the Department to prepare legal procedures to conduct a survey and excavate the archaeological discovery site in Binh Son commune. Thereby, clarifying the cultural values, especially the archaeological values of the relic before proceeding with the construction of items serving the Long Thanh International Airport project.

Most recently, Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve coordinated with relevant units to conduct a survey of the archaeological excavation site of Ong Chon Temple (in Phu Ly Commune, Vinh Cuu District). This site, also known as Suoi Rang relic, was discovered in 1987 with a cluster of relics consisting of 2 groups of mounds about 1.5-3m high, located about 200m apart in the East-West direction. The cluster of relics in the East (Ong Chon Temple 1) consists of 3 small mounds located next to each other and the mound in the West (Ong Chon Temple 2) is located on the top of a high hill.

The planned excavation site is Ong Chon 2 Temple. Through field surveys, the units agreed that this is a type of architectural relic belonging to the Oc Eo cultural period, and it is necessary to conduct excavation to study the scale and role of the relic in the development history of Vinh Cuu land in particular and the Southeast region in general. At the same time, it is requested that Dong Nai Museum commit to not affecting valuable forest trees on the surface and around the relic. After completion, the excavation will be filled in and the original state will be restored.

On April 26, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee NGUYEN SON HUNG signed a document to agencies, units and localities on strengthening the management of relics and activities of preserving, restoring historical and cultural relics and scenic spots. In particular, the Provincial People's Committee requested agencies, units and localities to strengthen propaganda work on cultural heritage; step up inspection, supervision of the protection and promotion of relic values in the locality...

Continue to restore and embellish relics

In 2025, Dong Nai will continue to promote the conservation and promotion of historical and cultural relics through the implementation of Plan 160/KH-UBND on the restoration and embellishment of relics in the province for the period 2024-2028. Many relics have been and are being restored and embellished with many sources of capital, including public investment capital, career sources and socialization. These include the restoration and embellishment of Tan Lan Communal House Relic, Bien Hoa City; the restoration and embellishment of the relic of the Establishment Site of Group 125 - the predecessor of the Cambodian United Armed Forces for National Salvation, Cam My District; the restoration of Phu My Communal House Relic, Phu Hoi Commune, Nhon Trach District...

According to the Head of the Phuoc Lu Communal House's Worship Committee (Trung Dung Ward, Bien Hoa City) Do Huu Tri, based on Plan 160/KH-UBND, Phuoc Lu Communal House will be renovated and embellished in 2028. However, some items at the relic have degraded, if we wait until 2028 to renovate, some damaged structures may be more seriously damaged. Therefore, the Phuoc Lu Communal House's Worship Committee has proposed to the Bien Hoa City People's Committee and relevant departments and branches to allow the repair of 2 wooden pillars at the main altar and the reinforcement of the porch on the side of the communal house. The cost of this work is taken from the socialized source mobilized by Phuoc Lu Communal House.

Preserving and promoting the value of relics in Dong Nai is not only the responsibility of the authorities, but also requires the cooperation of the community. Through restoration, embellishment and archaeological research activities, Dong Nai is striving to preserve and promote valuable cultural and historical values, contributing to traditional education and sustainable tourism development.
