Environmental protection in Phong Nam village

Ms. Ngo Thi Tinh (65 years old), a resident of Phong Nam village, happily said that the roads are clear, the sidewalks are clear and always green, clean and beautiful thanks to the people's joint efforts to protect the environment. In particular, the environmental club's activities bring practical benefits, helping people raise their awareness of environmental protection, and visitors to the village also have good impressions.

Mr. Le Duc Sy, Head of the Village Environmental Club, said that Phong Nam Village was chosen by the city as a destination for rural tourism and has many communal houses, pagodas, shrines, and churches recognized as historical relics at the city level. Therefore, environmental protection is very important. The Environmental Club was established in 2008 and is the first village in the city to have an Environmental Club.

At first, there were 35 members, the core force was veterans, now increased to 60 people, operating on the principle of volunteerism and self-management. Over the years, the Environmental Club has always been at the forefront of implementing resolutions of all levels and local movements, contributing to completing the criteria for building new rural areas and model cultural villages. The Club responded to the construction of an environmental city, the program "4 safe cities" and effectively implemented the study and practice of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.

For many years, the Environmental Club has been recognized and rewarded by the Veterans Association of Hoa Chau Commune, Hoa Vang District and the city. “To preserve the environmental landscape, twice a month, the Club mobilizes members to clean up household waste, garbage, clear bushes, and kill mosquito larvae on the village roads. Every quarter, the Club organizes regular meetings to evaluate tasks and propose solutions. Every year, we summarize and honor typical and exemplary individuals and draw lessons to maintain and promote the effectiveness of the Club,” said Mr. Sy.

Through village activities, the Environmental Club regularly incorporates propaganda with the message that each member is a role model in environmental sanitation work and has the responsibility to join hands with the Club to carry out the task. Thereby, promoting the slogan "Protecting the environment is the responsibility and obligation of the people"; "Protecting the environment is protecting your family's health"...

From specific actions, up to now, people have been aware of compliance, no longer throwing garbage and animal carcasses into ponds, lakes, and sewers. In addition to environmental protection activities, the Club mobilizes people to donate land to widen roads, alleys, and inner-field roads. Club members have participated in thousands of working days dredging drainage canals, ponds, cleaning up after storms and floods, and planting more than 300 black star trees, 150 purple Lagerstroemia trees, building new and planting 2 flower beds and on the main roads of the village.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Chairman of the Commune Veterans Association, said that for many years, the Commune Veterans Association has chosen Phong Nam Village Environmental Club as a typical environmental club in the movement of veterans participating in environmental protection. From Phong Nam Village Environmental Club, the association has expanded the model to the remaining villages in the area to create uniformity.

At the same time, the Phong Nam Village Environmental Club was developed by the District Veterans Association to deploy environmental clubs in neighboring communes. Hopefully, in the coming time, the Club will continue to strengthen propaganda and mobilize members to set an example in implementing regulations on environmental protection; resolutely fight against cases that affect the environment, contributing to building a green, clean and beautiful urban area.
