
Authorities release rare turtle back into the wild - Photo: QUANG HA
On the morning of October 13, Gio Linh - Con Co Forest Protection Department ( Quang Tri province) announced that it had just coordinated with Ben Hai Commune Police and Cua Viet Port Border Guard Station to release a rare turtle into the wild.
On October 12, Mr. Le Bang (head of Ha Loi Trung village, Ben Hai commune) discovered a turtle crawling into his house. Mr. Bang took a photo and posted it on social media for identification. When he learned that this was a rare turtle species, he proactively brought it to the Ben Hai commune police.
Authorities determined that the turtle weighed about 1kg, was in normal health, and was a golden mountain turtle (Indotestudo elongata) - a rare, precious, endangered forest animal belonging to group IIB, in need of strict protection.
After completing the procedures, the turtle was released back to a safe forest area.
