RT reported that in a statement on December 2, the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs under the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said that the MIDVOLGA-2 oil tanker, flying the Russian flag, was attacked while it was about 120 km off the Turkish coast.

"The ship did not request assistance and is moving towards Sinop. Currently, all 13 sailors are safe," Turkish officials informed, but did not specify the "culprit" who attacked the ship.

Russia's Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Waterways Transport later confirmed that the ship had been attacked by a drone and suffered only minor damage.

Last week, several explosive-laden drones attacked two Gambian-flagged oil tankers – Kairos and Virat – off the coast of Türkiye. Ukrainian media sources described the attack as a joint operation involving the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and the country’s navy.

In addition, a suspected Ukrainian drone attacked a Russian crude oil hub on the Black Sea coast. The crude oil hub is part of the Caspian Pipeline Corporation (CPC), which is operated by Russia, Kazakhstan, the United States and several Western European countries.

Moscow condemned the attacks. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Ukraine of violating Turkey's sovereignty. Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli said: "The incidents that occurred in our Exclusive Economic Zone in the Black Sea pose a serious risk to navigation, human life, property and the environment."
