Will the 939-horsepower Lotus Eletre PHEV create a fever?

After the pure electric variant with 905 horsepower, Lotus is about to launch a hybrid version with a huge capacity of 939 horsepower, promising to create a new PHEV car fever.

Lotus China recently announced that it is recalibrating its product roadmap with a clear focus on plug-in hybrids. Speaking to investors during its Q3 2025 earnings call, the first car will debut in early 2026 and promises to be a big hit with 952 ps, or 939 horsepower.

That's significantly more than what UK-based Lotus Technology has provided for the battery-powered Eletre R, which has a peak output of 905 horsepower and 727 pound-feet (985 Nm) of torque. The upcoming SUV 's hybrid platform operates at 900 volts, 100 volts more than the battery-powered version.

Currently, the only plug-in hybrid with 900 volts is the Zeekr 9X Hyper, which has a 70 kWh battery that can be charged using DC at over 400 kW. Zeekr claims that accelerating from 20 to 80 percent will take 9 minutes under optimal conditions. Powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, two rear motors, and an electric drive unit up front, the 9X Hyper produces a maximum output of 1,381 horsepower and a peak torque of 1,039 pound-feet (1,410 Nm).

Feng Qingfeng also confirmed that a dual-chamber air suspension and a 48-volt active stability control system will be available for the Eletre PHEV, and a second plug-in hybrid version will be added to the lineup soon.

According to Lotus Technology's unaudited Q3 2025 report, no fewer than 3,314 electric vehicles were delivered in the first nine months of the year, with the majority going to customers in China, followed by Europe and North America. Lotus Technology's battery-powered electric vehicle sales improved 18% compared to the first nine months of 2024.

On the other hand, Lotus Technology also reported a 46% year-on-year drop in total revenue. Its operating loss was $357 million compared to a net loss of $378 million, meaning Lotus Technology is still not competitive enough in the auto manufacturing sector.

Built in the UK, the only internal combustion engine Lotus model until November 2025 is the Emira, with 1,298 delivered in the first nine months of the year, up 64% on the same period last year.

The Emira is available with either a supercharged V6 from Toyota or a turbocharged inline-four from Mercedes-AMG. The six-cylinder makes 400 horsepower, and the smaller engine is equivalent to the Turbo SE's specs.
