More airlines are preparing to operate flights to Con Dao
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Vietjet Air plans to resume direct flights from Hanoi to Con Dao, marking an important step forward in serving passenger travel needs.
The airline will receive two Embraer E190 aircraft to operate on this route, out of a total of 10 new aircraft that Vietjet plans to receive, including eight Airbus A321 aircraft.
According to records, Vietjet is making many moves such as recruiting flight attendants, pilots, and equipment to serve the Embraer E190... However, the flight time to Con Dao has not been determined yet.
Restoring this flight route will bring many benefits to passengers, especially those in the North who want to explore the wild natural beauty of Con Dao.
Previously, Bamboo Airways operated this route, but stopped operating since April 2024.
Vietjet's participation in exploitation not only helps reduce overload on flights but also helps save time and costs for passengers.
Previously, passengers from Hanoi had to transfer to Tan Son Nhat or Can Tho to continue by Vasco's ATR72 aircraft (a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines ), which took longer and cost more.
Currently, on the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route, Vasco still maintains passenger transport operations using ATR72 aircraft. However, with limited seats (maximum 66 passengers) and long flight times, passengers often have difficulty booking tickets, especially during peak tourist season.
High demand but limited transport capacity keeps ticket prices consistently high, with round-trip tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao costing around VND2.7 million, and direct tickets from Hanoi costing no less than VND3 million.
Con Dao Airport can currently only receive a maximum of 33 flights by ATR-72 or equivalent from 6am to 6pm daily due to the short runway and lack of night lighting.
In the future, if upgraded, this airport will be able to accommodate large ships such as A320/A321 or equivalent.

Fly to Con Dao, towards environmental protection
Vietnam Airlines and Vasco actively participate in environmental protection activities through the campaign "Fly lightly to Con Dao".
At the end of September 2024, this campaign was launched with the Green Con Dao Festival, aiming to raise environmental protection awareness among residents and tourists.
The program will be held on November 30 and December 30, with the goal of collecting 1,500 - 2,000 kg of waste in Con Dao for treatment and recycling.
Organizing the Green Con Dao Festival is not only an event, but also a strong message about community responsibility in protecting the environment.
The event will include activities such as beach clean-ups, waste sorting and environmental protection workshops for local people.
Sustainable development has become one of Vietnam Airlines' key strategies, with plans to expand environmental protection activities in Con Dao and other locations across the country.
The airline aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, while contributing to building a sustainable aviation and tourism ecosystem.
