On the afternoon of April 29, at major bus stations in Hanoi such as My Dinh, Giap Bat, Nuoc Ngam..., the atmosphere began to bustle as people carrying their luggage flocked back to their hometowns for the April 30 - May 1 holidays.
At 1:30 p.m., at Giap Bat bus station (Hoang Mai district), the number of passengers increased suddenly.
Groups of people carrying suitcases, big and small bags jostling to find a bus home.
This afternoon, the hot sun in Hanoi makes people's travel more difficult.
Many people took a nap, bought more drinks, bread and fast food to prepare for the long journey.
"I took the opportunity to take an early leave from work to go to the bus station first, afraid that the later it gets, the more crowded it will be. During the holidays, the bus station is always packed with people. Every year, it's the same, traveling is hard but having time to go home with family is also fun," said Ngoc (from Thanh Hoa).
"I bought my ticket last week to avoid being sold out. The bus station was crowded but orderly, and the staff were enthusiastic in giving instructions, so I felt secure," said Ms. Mai Anh (residing in Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi).
On the occasion of April 30, many families take the opportunity to bring their children back to their hometown to visit relatives and rest.
At 2:30 p.m. the same day, a long line of people patiently waited in line to buy tickets at Giap Bat Bus Station.
At My Dinh bus station (Nam Tu Liem district), the number of passengers also increased rapidly. Bus routes to provinces such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien , Hoa Binh... were all full.
Some routes have to add more trips to meet people's travel needs.
At the waiting room of My Dinh bus station, many passengers sat and rested waiting for the bus to take them home for the holiday.
From the bus stations to the streets, everyone was in a hurry, carrying bags in their hands, waiting to catch the bus back home.
The April 30-May 1 holiday is the second longest holiday in April, after the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day holiday (March 10 of the lunar calendar).
Civil servants, public employees and workers have 5 consecutive days off, from Wednesday (April 30) to Sunday (May 4).
Today and tomorrow are peak times for people returning to their hometowns, so it is predicted that many roads will be crowded and prone to traffic jams due to heavy traffic volume.
