Ministry of Public Security launches 3-month campaign to prevent counterfeit goods

At the regular Government press conference in May, on the afternoon of June 4, sharing some information related to the issue of counterfeit goods, fake goods, poor quality goods, goods of unknown origin and food safety and hygiene that are currently receiving special attention from the public, Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan, Chief of Office, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security said that the Ministry of Public Security has directed to focus on 3 key contents and is implementing synchronously nationwide.

Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan recommends that people be vigilant and cautious with products advertised as "multi-purpose", "cheap", "miracle drug", and proactively report promptly to the police when detecting signs of violations for coordination in handling.

Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan, Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Public Security, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security: The Ministry of Public Security has launched a high-point campaign to attack and suppress violations in the field of food safety. Although the Prime Minister assigned a deadline of one month, the Ministry of Public Security has proactively launched a high-point campaign lasting three months, starting from May 15, mobilizing all police forces of units and localities to take part. Second, the police force also participated in coordinating with the Prime Minister's Working Group, deploying measures to combat and prevent violations in the spirit of urgency and determination. Third, we believe that it is necessary to deploy in parallel the work of advising on institutional improvement, overcoming limitations and shortcomings in state management of this field.

Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan added that the unit is coordinating to develop a report to submit to the Government and the National Assembly , in which it proposes to amend and supplement a number of provisions in the Penal Code. The orientation is to increase penalties for certain types of crimes, especially acts of producing and trading in counterfeit, banned, and poor-quality goods and violating regulations on finance and conditional business lines.

Regarding the initial results of the peak attack from May 15 to June 3, Mr. Toan said that the authorities have prosecuted 36 cases, 119 defendants, mainly for smuggling, trade fraud, production and trade of counterfeit and poor quality goods in 24 localities across the country. In particular, a number of officials (or former officials) in state management agencies have been handled with signs of aiding and abetting violations, violating procedures, and even showing signs of taking advantage of their positions and powers to cover up.
