Responding to a reporter's question requesting more information about Vietnamese citizens rescued in Myanmar and plans to bring them back home, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that, according to the latest information from the Vietnamese representative office in Myanmar, the security situation in some northern states of Myanmar continues to be complex. To date, approximately 700 Vietnamese citizens are in a temporarily safe area, and information on many other cases is awaiting verification.
"From the moment we received information about the situation in Myanmar, as well as the situation of Vietnamese citizens in Myanmar at the end of October 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar to work with relevant authorities and request the Myanmar side to ensure the safety and basic living conditions for Vietnamese citizens and to facilitate their movement out of the conflict zone," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese representative offices in Myanmar and China have closely coordinated and shared information with foreign representative offices that have citizens in the region, and worked with Chinese authorities to request assistance for Vietnam in protecting its citizens.
Ms. Hang stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuing to coordinate with relevant agencies both domestically and internationally to implement measures to ensure the safety and evacuation of citizens as quickly as possible.
"We have been working 24/7, and in the coming period, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will closely monitor the situation and maintain contact with Vietnamese citizens in the refuge areas, and be ready to deploy necessary protection measures and bring citizens back home after a relocation plan has been agreed upon," Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized.
