Previously, the Vietnamese Embassy worked with Cambodian authorities and conducted interviews and verified information about 48 Vietnamese citizens being deported by the General Department of Immigration - Ministry of Interior of Cambodia for violating regulations on entry, exit, labor and residence of Cambodia.
The initial results of the inspection, screening, and interviews determined that 48 Vietnamese citizens (including 6 women and 42 men, aged 17 to 45) had left for Cambodia at various times and at various border gates. These citizens had permanent residence registrations mainly in 19 provinces and cities across the country.
These people were detained by Cambodian authorities in the capital Phnom Penh, on suspicion of “criminal activities and online fraud”. Among them, some citizens were rescued at the request of the Vietnamese Embassy in Svay Rieng province, Kandal province and Sihanoukville city (Kingdom of Cambodia).
At the handover ceremony, the Tinh Bien International Border Guard Station coordinated with relevant authorities to verify, classify the subjects and carry out necessary procedures to receive 48 Vietnamese workers. The Department of Health checked the health of the received citizens.
During the reception procedure, An Giang province authorities discovered that only 7/48 citizens had passports, the rest did not have passports and had illegally entered Cambodia.
Notably, Mr. Nguyen Van Doan (born in 1990, residing in Dak Lak province) was rescued and handed over (deported) to Vietnam on July 19, 2025 and was put on the "entry ban" list by Cambodia for a period of 5 years. However, Mr. Doan continued to illegally enter and exit Cambodia and called for help.
After completing the reception procedures, the Tinh Bien International Border Guard Station handed over the above citizens to the Immigration Police Department of An Giang Provincial Police and relevant agencies to continue verifying, clarifying information and handing over to localities according to the provisions of law./.
