
On the morning of November 6, a working delegation of the Ministry of National Defense led by Major General Hoang Huu Chien, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Vietnam Border Guard, member of the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on preventing and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, inspected the implementation of the peak campaign against IUU fishing at the Border Guard Command of An Giang province.
Reporting to the working delegation, the leader of the Border Guard of An Giang province said that from the beginning of 2024 to October 31, 2025, the border control stations have processed procedures for more than 16,000 departures and 15,000 arrivals; refused to depart 69 ships due to lack of required documents and equipment; and recorded 474 vehicles that lost connection to VMS (fishing vessel monitoring software). The unit is currently managing 19 "3 no" fishing vessels, coordinating with localities to mobilize ship owners to complete registration and inspection documents and commit to strictly complying with legal regulations.

The units have launched a peak campaign of propaganda, patrolling and controlling against IUU fishing. Of which, 3 concentrated propaganda sessions were organized with the participation of more than 440 fishermen. The unit inspected 62 vehicles/224 fishermen, and warned 7 vehicles for minor violations. At the same time, the fisheries force, fisheries surveillance, police and commune teams coordinated to organize 8 inter-sectoral patrols in the assigned sea areas for management...
After listening to the report and inspecting the actual situation, the working group highly appreciated the proactive spirit, responsibility and achievements of the Border Guard of An Giang province in the work of preventing and combating IUU fishing. At the same time, they requested the unit to continue to closely coordinate with local forces and authorities, resolutely prevent and strictly handle violations, contributing to the entire army and people to soon remove the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC).
