Ministry of Construction: Patriotic emulation, 'keeping the fire' of love for the profession in the new period

(Chinhphu.vn) - Recently, the quality of the Ministry of Construction's commendation work has been improved in the direction of promoting the role and responsibility of the leader. The commendation is based on the results of the evaluation of emulation movements, ensuring timeliness, objectivity and correct achievements.

This afternoon (October 24), in Hanoi , the Ministry of Construction organized the 1st Patriotic Emulation Congress (2025 - 2030).

In the 2021-2025 period, the emulation and reward work of the Ministry of Construction has always been under the leadership of the Party and the direction of the Government, closely following key political tasks. The Ministry of Construction has launched more than 20 emulation movements, of which 7 movements have emulation periods for the entire period.

All emulation movements are deployed synchronously and creatively, closely linked to the implementation of political tasks, making great contributions to the cause of national economic construction and development, such as: emulation "Good workers, creative workers", "Building cultural agencies and units", "Promoting administrative reform, building digital government".

In particular, there are 5 typical emulation movements, closely linked to the specific work and professional tasks of the Ministry and its affiliated agencies and units, including: The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses; The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas; Promote the development of synchronous and modern transport infrastructure; practice thrift and combat waste in the period of 2022 - 2030; Accelerate the progress of implementation and disbursement of public investment capital plans in the period of 2021 - 2025 and the peak emulation period "500 days and nights of emulation to complete 3,000km of expressway".

To honor advanced models in the emulation movement, within the framework of the congress, there was an exchange with a number of typical models with inspirational stories.

That is Deputy Captain Tran Van Khoi, Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region II, is the first Vietnamese crew member to be awarded the "Exceptional Act of Courage" award by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Having worked as a rescuer for twenty years, Khoi understands that this is a dangerous job. However, witnessing the losses and hardships of fishermen and crew members, he has no time to think about his own safety. "I just want to save people as quickly as possible. The smiles and tears of happiness of the victims and their families are the motivation for me to stick with the job," he shared.

Also saving people but in a different way, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Hien, Director of Minh Duc Company Limited, was still moved when remembering the 24-hour lightning-fast road opening in Lao Cai, contributing to saving many people in the horrific landslide that buried Nu village in September 2025. Understanding that the decision to let workers open the road at that time was dangerous and risky, but the pain of "if delayed, the lives of many people would be in danger" forced Ms. Hien to make the decision.

"The ground was still landslides above, and the ground was full of mud. We couldn't bring in machinery, so we had to use hoes and shovels and manual labor to clear the walking path to get the injured out and take them to the emergency room. That morning, 17 people were taken out. By the afternoon of September 10, the path was cleared so that ambulances could enter and continue to take 10 more people out," Ms. Hien recalled. After 24 hours, regardless of day or night, the path leading to Nu village was cleared, helping rescue forces reach the scene.

As for Mr. Le Anh Dung, a mechanical engineer at Vicem Hoang Mai Cement Joint Stock Company, patriotic emulation is expressed in a different way. In the past 5 years, he has had more than 12 initiatives, directly contributing effectively to production and business activities, bringing in large profits of tens and hundreds of billions of VND for the company.

As for Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thai Binh, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Science and Technology of Transport (University of Transport Technology), he is one of nine scientists ranked in the group of 10,000 most influential scientists in the world. For Mr. Binh, pride is when Vietnamese science reaches international level and is recognized internationally.

Compete to 'keep the fire burning' and stick to goals and plans

According to Minister Tran Hong Minh, in the 2021 - 2025 period, the Ministry of Construction is assigned to manage multiple sectors and fields with an exceptionally large scale and workload in a difficult and volatile context. The entire sector is heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid, complex and unpredictable developments of the world and regional economic and political situation, and the strong changes in the restructuring of the political system's apparatus.

Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh acknowledged: Continuing to "keep the fire burning" and closely following the goals of emulation movements, linking emulation movements with the implementation of political tasks of each agency and unit is identified as a key factor to completing the task.

In the period of 2021 - 2025, the Ministry of Construction not only successfully completed the assigned political tasks but also created breakthroughs on three strategic pillars: perfecting the legal system, developing a synchronous and modern infrastructure and improving the quality of human resources. In addition, the quality of commendation work was improved in the direction of promoting the role and responsibility of the leader. The commendation was based on the results of evaluating emulation movements, ensuring timeliness, objectivity and correct achievements.

Entering the 2025 - 2030 period, Minister Tran Hong Minh assessed that the Ministry of Construction is facing many new development opportunities, but also many difficulties and challenges, especially the high requirements for institutional improvement, synchronous infrastructure development, smart and sustainable urban construction and ensuring traffic safety.

With the Ministry's emulation theme for the 2026 - 2030 period being "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Breakthrough - Development", the 3 key tasks that the Minister requested agencies and units to implement include: Evaluating the results of patriotic emulation movements and commendation work for the 2021 - 2025 period; setting out directions and tasks for the 2025 - 2030 period; Commending and honoring typical advanced individuals and collectives; typical and excellent models in emulation movements; Launching the emulation movement for the 2025 - 2030 period to create a strong atmosphere, arouse patriotism, solidarity and consensus to promote innovation, creativity, improve labor productivity and work efficiency.

Within the framework of the Congress, Minister Tran Hong Minh launched the emulation movement: "Cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers of the Ministry of Construction compete to successfully carry out socio-economic development tasks (2025-2030)".
