Sanofi accompanies the Department of Disease Prevention and Control to cooperate in implementing activities to support system capacity building and disease prevention communication through promoting lifelong vaccination activities in Vietnam.
According to the memorandum, the two sides will coordinate to implement key tasks including: reviewing, evaluating and proposing policy solutions related to vaccination activities and vaccine use in Vietnam; developing professional guidelines and recommendations on vaccination; and organizing communication andeducation to raise public awareness of the benefits of vaccines, especially new-generation vaccines for different age groups.
The Department of Disease Prevention plays a leading role, is responsible for expertise, guides communication content, provides official information to the press, and monitors and evaluates implementation effectiveness. On Sanofi's side, the company will provide financial support, connect domestic and foreign experts; and accompany the implementation of the program in accordance with Vietnamese law and the agreed cooperation direction.
In addition, the signed Memorandum of Understanding serves as a basis for implementing activities to support review, assessment, and proposal of policy solutions on vaccination activities, vaccine use in general, and vaccination in Vietnam in particular.
The Expanded Immunization Program in Vietnam has been implemented nationwide since 1985 and has achieved many remarkable achievements. The rate of full vaccination for children under 1 year old has always been maintained at over 95%. Thanks to that, Vietnam has eliminated polio (in 2000), eliminated neonatal tetanus (in 2005), and significantly reduced the number of cases and deaths due to measles, whooping cough, and diphtheria.
