The above information was announced by Mr. Ta Manh Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Drug Administration, this afternoon, April 17.

Also according to Mr. Hung, as soon as receiving information about the large-scale production and trading of fake pharmaceutical drugs nationwide, which was dismantled by the police, the Ministry of Health sent an urgent document to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health requesting information provision, close coordination with the police to fight, clarify, strictly handle law violators and thoroughly recall the counterfeit drugs that had been put on the market.

These counterfeit products are mainly sold online; in small retail distribution channels, and have never been granted a circulation registration number by the Ministry of Health . Some products have fake labels and many products have product names completely invented by the production group.

Among the 21 products seized by the police, there were 4 types of counterfeit modern medicine (44 boxes of Tetracycline, 40 boxes of Clorocid, 49 boxes of Pharcoter, 52 boxes of Neo-Codion).

The remaining 39,323 boxes included 17 types of counterfeit products suspected to be traditional medicine, products with labels stating the intended use as medicine. These products did not have registration numbers, and some imitated the labels of medicine products that already had registration numbers.

Production and trade of counterfeit drugs carries the maximum penalty of death.

Mr. Hung emphasized that medicine is a special commodity that directly affects the health and life of patients, so it requires strict management.

The act of producing and trading counterfeit drugs is one of the prohibited acts stipulated in the Law on Pharmacy and is subject to criminal liability. Accordingly, those who produce and trade counterfeit drugs can be criminally prosecuted for a minimum of 2 years in prison and a maximum of the death penalty.

The representative of the Drug Administration Department added that to ensure drug quality, the Ministry of Health has implemented a series of pre-inspection and post-inspection activities throughout the entire process of drug production, trading and use, strengthened inspection and examination work, and issued many decisions to impose strict administrative penalties on organizations and individuals who violate the law.

People can look up licensed drugs on the online public service system. If the drug is not listed on the website, it is not licensed for circulation, cannot be produced, traded, or used.
