2025 will be a long year for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, filled with many events and successes. The SEA Games will be the final tournament, bringing to a close a memorable period.

A year of many memories

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team has had a lengthy preparation period for the SEA Games. Since the end of the national championship, they have had about two months of training in the country.

But in reality, preparations for the SEA Games began around mid-year. Throughout 2025, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team continuously participated in major tournaments such as the AVC Nations Cup, VTV Cup, World Volleyball Championship, SEA V.League, etc.

And in almost every tournament, the team has had wonderful memories. Perhaps the most memorable was winning the second leg of the SEA V.League. This is because, for the first time in history, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team defeated Thailand to claim the championship.

Next came the historic achievement of participating in the World Championships for the first time. Although they left the tournament with three consecutive losses, one set win against title contender Poland brought considerable joy to the fans.

The AVC Nations Cup championship, the second place in VTV Cup and many other memorable matches have left a 2025 that can be considered a success for Vietnamese women's volleyball so far. Their reputation is so great that at the SEA Games opening ceremony, the Vietnamese sports delegation chose middle blocker Le Thanh Thuy as one of the two flag bearers.

This is the first time a volleyball player has received this honor at the SEA Games opening ceremony. This tournament will also be the final event of the year for Vietnamese women's volleyball.

Initially, the team's goal was to win the gold medal. However, based on the actual situation and the available resources, the target was ultimately changed to a silver medal.

Despite the changes, fans will certainly still look forward to every match of the volleyball girls.

Waiting for a smooth launch day

According to the draw results, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is in Group B along with Myanmar, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team will play their opening match against Myanmar at 3 PM on December 10th.

Myanmar's women's volleyball team has never been highly regarded. Even finding information about their athletes is difficult. Stories about their training and preparation for the SEA Games remain a mystery.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is the opposite. Fans in Southeast Asia are certainly very familiar with Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, the 1.9m tall star who has played abroad many times.

Recently, Tran Thi Bich Thuy has also achieved success with her "study abroad" trips to South Korea and Japan. Lam Oanh, Le Thanh Thuy, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, and a few other names could also make it onto the list of the best athletes in the region at this time.

Therefore, victory is unlikely to slip from the grasp of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet can even take advantage of the opportunity to experiment with the lineup, using reserve players without having to worry too much about the result.

Of course, in sports, nothing can be said with certainty. But over the past year, Thanh Thúy and her teammates have overcome many teams stronger than Myanmar, such as Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, and even Thailand. This provides a basis for arguing that they are unlikely to "stumble."

A victory on the opening day is a motivation for the whole team to aim for a further goal at SEA Games 33.
