Just about 15 minutes after the matches began at the 33rd SEA Games, in the taekwondo event, the gold medal had already been awarded, and that medal went to the Thai sports delegation.
In the women's individual creative poomsae event – one of the six events in the taekwondo performance category – Thai athlete Limjitakorn Watcharakul brilliantly defeated opponents from Singapore and Laos to claim the top prize.
The girl from the host team Thailand performed a technical and creative performance, winning an outstanding score of 7,900.
The athletes from Singapore and Laos won the silver and bronze medals respectively with scores of 7,180 and 1,680, demonstrating a clear difference in performance between the Thai athletes and their competitors.
It is known that the taekwondo performance at the 33rd SEA Games has a total of 6 competitions, in which each country is allowed to register a maximum of 4 events. Notably, the Vietnamese sports delegation did not register to participate in the women's individual creative competition but focused their forces on other strong events.
Currently, other taekwondo competitions are still ongoing, promising more surprises, and Vietnam is expected to win a gold medal in this sport.
The 33rd SEA Games will take place from December 9 to 20 in Thailand. The Vietnamese sports delegation will consist of 1,165 members, including 842 athletes, 189 coaches, and 19 experts, competing in 47 of the 66 sports, with 443 of the 573 events.
The head of the Vietnamese sports delegation is Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports.
The goal of the Vietnamese sports delegation is to win 91-110 gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games, ranking in the top 3 of the medal table.
