The 2025 AFF Women's Championship just ended in Hai Phong on August 19. In this tournament, the Thai women's football team lost to the Vietnamese women's football team twice.

For the first time, Thailand lost 0-1 to coach Mai Duc Chung's team in the group stage. For the second time, the Thai women's team lost 1-3 to the Vietnamese women's team in the third-place match.

After these two defeats, two days after the Thai women's football team returned home, FAT decided to fire coach Futoshi Ikeda.

This was quite a surprising decision, because previously Thai football had placed a lot of hope in Japanese coaches, in raising the level of both men's and women's football in the Land of the Golden Temple.

After parting ways with coach Futoshi Ikeda, FAT is targeting new candidates to take over the head coach position of the Thai women's football team. One of the most promising candidates for this position is Ms. Nuengruethai Sathongwien, former coach of the Thai women's football team.

Just a few weeks ago, Ms. Nuengruethai Sathongwien came to Ho Chi Minh City to attend the Southeast Asian U19 women's football tournament and helped the Thai U19 team win the championship.
