Transformation in agriculture of Long Hung commune when reaching advanced new rural standards

STO - Long Hung is a purely agricultural commune of My Tu district (Soc Trang). This locality identifies that building a new rural area (NTM) is a central, comprehensive, long-term task in the cause of developing agriculture, farmers, and rural areas, a regular and continuous process, aiming at the goal of sustainable rural development. Accordingly, after achieving the NTM commune standard in 2014, Long Hung commune has actively implemented the improvement and completion of the indicators and criteria for building an advanced NTM commune. After 10 years of implementation, Long Hung commune has been recognized as meeting the advanced NTM commune standard.

The highlight of Long Hung commune is that in addition to the completed infrastructure for transportation, trade, and people's health care, agricultural production is also considered a bright spot of the commune. Agricultural production continues to develop, with many effective rural economic development models in the direction of integrating multiple values ​​being maintained and replicated. The commune has divided 5 production areas on rice, including high-yield, high-quality rice production areas; rice production areas combined with duck farming; organic specialty rice production areas; rice production areas following the 3-plant, 1-animal model; 2-rice crop production areas combined with 1 fish crop; developing rice and pineapple production areas. The rice production area with consumption linkage is 550ha/crop; the organic rice production area combined with fish farming and fruit tree planting is 90ha.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Tan Hoa B hamlet, Long Hung commune confided: "Since my commune achieved the advanced NTM standards, I have found agricultural production more favorable, especially when the commune has a cooperative specializing in rice cultivation, and specialized sectors regularly come to train and transfer science and technology. Thanks to that, rice productivity has increased and companies and enterprises have cooperated to buy rice after harvest. In fact, in recent years, not only the cooperative has used high-quality rice varieties for cultivation, but most farmers outside the cooperative have also used specialty and high-yield varieties for sowing, so the income of agricultural households in the commune has increased, and their lives have been stable."

In addition to rice, MD2 pineapple is growing strongly with a current area of ​​25 hectares, and is granted a certificate of planting area code. This model has transformed the crop structure, bringing high economic efficiency, contributing to increasing the value of harvested products/ha of cultivated land. Through the formation of production areas, the value of agricultural production in the commune has increased quite high, with an estimated income of more than 145 million VND per hectare of agricultural land.

Comrade Nguyen Van Ngoan - Chairman of Long Hung Commune People's Committee said that in order to continue to improve, maintain and improve the quality to complete 19/19 advanced NTM criteria, aiming to build a model NTM commune, Long Hung commune will focus on exploiting and mobilizing all resources to mobilize the combined strength, integrating the National Target Program on NTM construction with other target programs and solving social security issues well. Promote the role and responsibility of the leader in directing and operating. Strengthen propaganda and mobilization work to mobilize people to register and contribute capital in NTM construction. Proactively review, maintain and improve the quality of achieved criteria, especially for achieved but low criteria, unstable and volatile criteria (environment, income, security and order, etc.).

Create a favorable environment, support farmers and rural residents to improve management capacity, develop production and business, create livelihoods, stable jobs, access resources, scientific and technological advances; transform from small-scale agricultural production to production and business according to the value chain. Apply advanced technology, high technology, digital transformation, meet the requirements of agricultural restructuring, building new rural areas. At the same time, redefine the content of people's dissatisfaction with the results of implementing advanced new rural construction in the commune to overcome, create trust for people to continue participating in building new rural areas. On that basis, build a roadmap to strive for the commune to meet the model new rural standards in the shortest time.
