Can Tho industrial parks create jobs for more than 9,000 workers

Can Tho City has 10 industrial clusters, of which 7 are in operation, attracting 49 secondary projects, with a total investment capital of about 8,480 billion VND. These industrial clusters are creating jobs for more than 9,000 workers.

7 industrial clusters create more than 9,000 jobs

Currently, industrial parks in Can Tho city are creating thousands of jobs for people.

According to the Industrial Cluster Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, Can Tho is oriented to develop 37 industrial clusters with a total area of ​​over 2,191 hectares. However, up to now, the city has established 10 industrial clusters (ICs) with an area of ​​541.65 hectares. Of which, 7 ICs have come into operation, attracting 49 secondary projects with a total investment capital of about 8,480 billion VND, creating jobs for more than 9,000 workers, achieving an occupancy rate of over 59%.

One industrial park has completed technical infrastructure, two industrial parks are clearing land; five other industrial parks have investors researching and preparing documents; the remaining 22 industrial parks are calling for investment...

The Management Board of Can Tho City Export Processing and Industrial Zones also reported that in the old Hau Giang province, there are 3 concentrated industrial parks, attracting 13 enterprises, implementing 13 investment projects; including 2 foreign investment projects.

Specifically, Phu Huu A concentrated industrial park, phase 1, established 11 years ago with an area of ​​110 hectares, 100% occupancy rate; attracted 7 projects. Of which, 6 projects have been in operation.

Industrial clusters in Can Tho city are contributing to the economic and social development of the locality and provinces in the Mekong Delta region.

Phase 3 of Phu Huu A Industrial Park has an area of ​​50 hectares, 100% occupancy rate, currently attracting 2 projects. Dong Phu Concentrated Industrial Park, phase 1 has an area of ​​60 hectares, 23% occupancy rate, currently attracting 3 projects.

Regarding the investment project to build the Song Hau Industrial Park Management Center, in December 2010, the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province (old) agreed to assign Thanh Phat Company Limited to invest in construction. The project has a land area of ​​over 12.5 hectares, with a total investment capital of nearly 274 billion VND.

In April 2026, the construction investment project was completed. Currently, the investor has put into use the office headquarters and the basic technical infrastructure system has been completed.

Song Hau Power Center Project, up to now there are 2 projects: Song Hau 1 Thermal Power Plant, Song Hau 2 Thermal Power Plant with more than 130 hectares, 100% filled, total registered capital of 45,145 billion VND and 3.2 million USD.

According to the Management Board of Can Tho City Export Processing and Industrial Zones, the compensation payment and handover of the Song Hau Power Center project has been approved but the budget of more than 23 billion VND has not been received. The locality has received the land of 600 households with an area of ​​more than 100 hectares, the remaining 89 households have not yet completed the handover of the land area of ​​nearly 9.5 hectares.

Many problems need to be solved

Currently, in some industrial parks, the occupancy rate is still low.

Currently, industrial parks, export processing zones, and industrial clusters in the city are creating thousands of jobs for people, and the projects are contributing to the economic and social development of the locality. However, currently, some industrial clusters such as Phu Huu A phase 1, Tan Tien warehouse and wharf, Nga Bay, An Lac Thon 1 and 2, Xay Da B, Xay Da B new... have low occupancy rates, some businesses have stopped operating for a long time, the progress of site clearance is slow, the technical infrastructure is not synchronized, there is a lack of clean water supply...

In addition, after the merger of Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces into Can Tho city, the industrial park management boards of Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces merged into the Can Tho Industrial and Export Processing Zones Management Board, but this unit does not have a legal basis to manage concentrated industrial clusters.

Regarding this problem, the Head of the Management Board of Can Tho City Export Processing and Industrial Zones has just sent an official dispatch to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, proposing two solutions to resolve the above problem.

VSIP Vinh Thanh Industrial Park infrastructure is speeding up progress, completing infrastructure for secondary investors to come and build factories.

Option 1: The City People's Committee agrees to transfer to Chau Thanh Commune People's Committee the function of state management over Phu Huu A concentrated industrial parks, phase 1, phase 3 and management of enterprises at Dong Phu concentrated industrial park, phase 1.

For the investment project to build the Song Hau Industrial Park Operation Center and the Song Hau Power Center, the Management Board proposed that the City People's Committee transfer the State management to the Department of Finance, relevant departments and localities to ensure compliance with regulations.

Option 2: The City People's Committee continues to issue a decision assigning the Management Board of Can Tho Export Processing and Industrial Zones to manage the above projects. This option does not disrupt or change the management agency; focuses on one-stop handling of administrative procedures and business recommendations; facilitates business operations.

Currently, the People's Committee of Can Tho City has directed specialized agencies to continue reviewing and examining the current status of industrial parks, proposing the best solutions to the city's leaders, promptly removing obstacles so that the Management Board of Can Tho City's Export Processing and Industrial Zones can perform its state management function at industrial parks, and at the same time create conditions for this unit to invite businesses to invest in industrial parks, industrial parks and export processing zones.
