Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council delivered a speech directing the workshop.

Speaking at the workshop, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, affirmed that the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front always respectfully affirm and highly appreciate the position and great contributions of our overseas Vietnamese to the cause of national construction, development and defense.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang commented: In today's Vietnamese culture and arts, there is a very important part, which is the extremely rich and unique cultural and artistic activities of our overseas Vietnamese - nearly 6 million children living far from their homeland but always looking towards the Fatherland. This is a "cultural window", opening up to the world a deep look at the identity, soul, intelligence and aspirations of the Vietnamese people.

Overseas Vietnamese artists are "cultural ambassadors", "lighters" who preserve the national cultural identity in our overseas Vietnamese community; at the same time, they are the pioneers in enhancing people-to-people exchanges, creating understanding and sympathy between Vietnam and other countries. Through literary works, music, paintings, cinema and many other art forms, the image of a beautiful, traditional, innovative, dynamic, creative and humane Vietnam is vividly introduced to friends around the world; becoming an effective bridge to promote integration, enhance the nation's "soft" power, affirm our country's position and prestige in the international arena.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, spoke at the conference.

However, in the context of the world undergoing epochal changes, Vietnam is making historic decisions to break through and develop in the new era. The cause of cultural and artistic development is posing many great responsibilities to artists and intellectuals at home and abroad, which are extremely glorious but also very heavy.

Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang also expressed his belief that, with the spirit of science, enthusiasm and responsibility, the conference will have objective, scientific assessments, feasible solutions, and high value to further develop the arts and culture in the country and of the Vietnamese community abroad; contributing to building an advanced Vietnamese culture, imbued with national identity, which is the goal, driving force, resource and endogenous strength for the rapid and sustainable development of the country in the new era - the era of the Vietnamese people's rise.

Leaders, artists and scholars attended the conference.

In his report at the conference, Associate Professor, Doctor, writer Nguyen The Ky, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, pointed out: Although living far from the Fatherland, even though they are the second, third, or fourth generation, the majority of Vietnamese people living far from the Fatherland, including intellectuals and artists, all carry Vietnamese blood, Vietnamese culture, and Vietnamese soul, always looking towards their homeland. Their audience is not limited to the Vietnamese community but extends to many places around the world.

According to Associate Professor, Doctor, writer Nguyen The Ky, many Vietnamese artists abroad consider literary and artistic creation as a personal need to relieve stress. Many are still deeply attached to their roots, Vietnamese culture, and Vietnamese language; they are concerned about the fate of the nation and people, especially through the changes and fluctuations of contemporary life; they are interested and happy with the great and profound changes in their homeland. They are proud to be Vietnamese, the Vietnamese people, and the Vietnamese origin. Organizing and participating in community literary and artistic activities aims to contribute to preserving and spreading Vietnamese culture. Exchange, promotion, and cooperation activities between associations and literary and artistic units in the country with organizations and individuals who are Vietnamese artists abroad have been strengthened, bringing about very encouraging results...

Besides the remarkable efforts and results mentioned above, the process of turning back to the country, to the roots, the efforts to reconcile, harmonize, close the past, and move towards the future among a group of Vietnamese artists abroad still has some barriers and obstacles; there is a psychological gap...

At the workshop, delegates focused on exchanging and discussing the current state of Vietnamese literature and arts abroad through historical periods, especially from 1975 to the present; identifying the group of artists; delving into each type of literature and arts; themes, content, and creative methods; theoretical, critical, and translation activities; pointing out advantages, results, limitations, shortcomings, and reasons for limitations and shortcomings. The presentations also made proposals and recommendations to the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam; to the leaders of the host country to encourage and facilitate the development of Vietnamese literature and arts abroad; and to resolve some difficulties and obstacles to create better development in the coming years.

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association, stated that in the past few decades, in addition to the mainstream domestic cinema, there has also been a cinema of directors of Vietnamese origin living abroad and directors of Vietnamese origin living in Vietnam. There are works by directors of Vietnamese origin that have achieved great success at prestigious international film festivals around the world. We need to evaluate the position, role and promote the effectiveness of the film stream of directors of Vietnamese origin living abroad...

Speaking at the conference, many foreign delegates provided many documents and new perspectives on Vietnamese literature and arts. Professor Tran Ich Nguyen, Department of Chinese Literature, Chenggong University, Taiwan, China, discussed in depth the situation of research and promotion of Vietnamese literature by Vietnamese students studying abroad in Taiwan, China. Director Olena Ivanchenko from Kiev, Ukraine, shared her perspective from Ukraine on Vietnamese literature and arts over the past 50 years...

The opinions and recommendations of the delegates will be received by the Central Theoretical Council and will advise the Party, the State, relevant departments, ministries, agencies and units in building and implementing guidelines and policies for the development of culture and arts; and have more correct and timely decisions to develop the culture and arts of the country and of compatriots living far from the Fatherland to become increasingly richer and more unique.
