Recently, a household goods stall in the New Market (Cam Thuan Ward, Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa ) was burned down by a fire due to an electrical short circuit. Although the fire was quickly extinguished by local forces, preventing it from spreading to neighboring stalls, the fear of fire is still a constant concern for small traders in the market.
Many vendors at the New Market display their goods, taking up the entire aisle. |
Arriving at the New Market at noon, we noticed that, although the fire had occurred not long ago, the household goods stall of Mrs. Tran Thi Thu Huong's family had been repaired and restored. However, nearby there were still burnt rafters and reinforced corrugated iron sheets... A saleswoman at Mrs. Huong's stall said that to prevent electrical short circuits leading to fires, the market's electricity system was cut off from 8 p.m. every day until 4 a.m. the next morning, but the fire still occurred. The cause was a meter (of a poultry slaughterhouse) mounted on the wooden wall of Mrs. Huong's stall had an electrical short circuit and led to a fire. Discovering the fire, the market security force and local residents used fire hoses to put out the fire afterwards.
According to Mr. Hoang Xuan Vu - Head of the New Market Management Board, 1 week after the fire at the household goods stall mentioned above, the power line of a business in the market also had a short circuit. The incident happened at noon, was discovered in time by the Market Management Board and quickly cut off the power grid, so the fire did not happen.
The electric wires are tangled and too old, with many sections showing exposed copper cores at Cho Moi. |
On the top floor of the Market Management Board building, we saw a tangle of old electrical wires on the wall, most of which had peeled off, exposing the copper core. According to Mr. Vu, whenever there was a thunderstorm, the electric poles in the market often had short circuits, which was very dangerous and could lead to a fire hazard. The New Market was built in 1989, and after several decades, the infrastructure has seriously degraded. In addition, some vendors have occupied the emergency exits in the market to display their goods, although the Market Management Board has reminded them many times, few people have complied.
It is known that Cho Moi is a type 2 market, managed by Cam Ranh City People's Committee. Mr. Le Minh Hai - Head of Cam Ranh City Economic Department informed that according to Decree No. 02 dated January 14, 2003 of the Government on market development and management, the City People's Committee has assigned Phuoc My Dien Company to manage, exploit and operate. Due to the current state of Moi Market's degradation and high risk of fire, the Economic Department has requested Phuoc My Dien Company to ensure fire prevention and fighting safety in the short term. In the long term, the Economic Department will work with related units to conduct a field survey and propose to the City People's Committee to invest in building a new market.
