Can Tho organizes a campaign to vaccinate livestock against diseases

Promote the leadership role of local authorities, departments, sectors and the responsibility of the people in implementing vaccination to protect livestock to develop stably, avoid the risk of epidemics causing economic losses, and also prevent diseases transmitted from animals to humans that threaten human health and life. Thereby, contributing to improving livestock efficiency, ensuring food safety and hygiene, ecological environment, people's health and socio-economic development.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tan Nhon, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, requested the People's Committees of districts in the city to pay attention to directing communes, wards and local functional units to actively participate in implementing vaccination work. Promote propaganda and mobilize people to participate in vaccination and comply with disease prevention regulations for livestock, implement livestock farming to ensure disease safety, biosafety, food safety and environmental sanitation. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, the Department has been and is continuing to coordinate with relevant departments, branches, localities and units to focus on synchronously, drastically and effectively implementing solutions to prevent and control livestock and poultry diseases according to the directions, programs and plans of the Central and the City. Pay attention to organizing vaccination with high coverage rates, effectively protecting livestock and stabilizing production development. Implementing Plan No. 247/KH-UBND on livestock development and prevention and control of livestock, poultry and aquatic diseases in 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has issued a Livestock Vaccination Plan in 2025, accordingly, Can Tho organizes 2 vaccination campaigns against mandatory diseases including foot-and-mouth disease in livestock, blue ear disease in pigs, lumpy skin disease in cattle and rabies in dogs and cats. Specifically, the first phase is from April 25 to June 15 and the second phase is from August to November 2025. In addition to the above vaccination phases, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development assigned the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to coordinate with localities to regularly review and carry out additional vaccinations for newly raised livestock, places where vaccination has not met requirements, livestock herds that have expired their immunity period or when requested by livestock breeders. The city strives to have a vaccination rate of over 80% of the livestock subject to vaccination and ensure that vaccination is carried out in accordance with the prescribed procedures, techniques and time. For rabies vaccination for dogs and cats, it is necessary to ensure that at least 80% of the total dog and cat herd in each locality is vaccinated.
