“Quishing” is a tactic that uses malicious QR codes to lead users to fake websites, install spyware, or make unwanted financial transactions.

Fraudsters print their own QR codes and paste them over payment QR codes at restaurants, bus stations, and convenience stores. When users scan to pay, the money is transferred to the scammer's account. In addition, victims receive emails or messages from fake organizations, asking them to scan the QR code to receive promotions, refunds, or update account information, but in fact, it is to steal login data and financial information.

Fraudsters can also use QR codes printed on fake lottery tickets, low-quality goods, flyers, etc. to lure users to visit websites containing viruses or tracking software. In addition, after scanning the code, spyware or malware can be silently installed on phones and computers to monitor activities, lock data and demand ransom, etc.
