Landslides on the positive slope, with rocks and soil spilling onto the road surface at Km8 of the La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway through Hue City, are being cleared by vehicles at noon on October 28 - Photo: Vietnam Road Administration
Currently, floodwaters in Hue City have receded, but many roads and residential areas are still deeply flooded. On National Highway 1 - Hue bypass, traffic jams have been cleared, vehicles can now move through the Hue bypass and vice versa.
The La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway is an important traffic route, connecting two major economic and social centers of the Central region, Da Nang and Hue. Therefore, the damage and disruption on the route not only causes difficulties for vehicles but also seriously affects the transportation of goods, people's lives and production and business activities.
However, on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway section as well as the Ho Chi Minh Highway West branch section through Hue City, there were landslides at some positive slope points at Km8, and rocks and soil overflowed the road at Km 12+300 and Km14, causing traffic jams.
Highway traffic diversion ensures traffic safety
Faced with that situation, Road Management Office II.5 coordinated and directed units on the route to divide traffic and ensure traffic flow for vehicles.
Specifically, vehicles traveling on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway in the North - South direction, when entering the intersection at Km 101+200, the Cam Lo - La Son expressway turns down to move to Km 848+875 of National Highway 1 in La Son and continues moving to the South and vice versa; vehicles are not allowed to travel on the Ho Chi Minh road section La Son - Tuy Loan during the time of troubleshooting.
Along with the traffic diversion, the Vietnam Road Administration has directed units to support contractors constructing the La Son - Tuy Loan route expansion and the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board (project investor) to mobilize machinery and equipment to urgently handle landslides on the positive slope to ensure the route is cleared as soon as possible.

The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board has dispatched machinery to the scene of the La Son-Hoa Lien highway to clear landslides.
In Hue City, by noon on October 28, the floodwaters had receded. However, the units have only now been able to clear National Highway 1 from Quang Tri to Da Nang City (following National Highway 1 - Hue bypass), or enter the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway, when reaching the final intersection of the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway, turn down to move to National Highway 1 at La Son intersection to continue to Da Nang and vice versa.
Currently, the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Highway through Hue City has many landslides causing traffic jams and National Highway 49 managed by the Hue City Department of Construction also has many flooded and landslide spots causing traffic jams.
Road Management Office II.5 also directed Quang Tri Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company to divert and remotely guide traffic on the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Road, north of Dakrong Bridge (Quang Tri Province) towards National Highway 9, not going through Dakrong Bridge, because there are many landslides and flooding points on the route due to heavy rain and floods.
38 landslides in Hue
The Office of the Hue City Civil Defense Command said that as of 11:00 a.m. the same day, 38 landslides had occurred in the city.
In Khe Tre commune, there are 17 landslides at Ka Tu pass, provincial road 14B (La Son - Nam Dong), inter-commune and village roads and along streams in the commune. On National Highway 49, the section through Binh Dien commune has 2 points and the section through A Luoi 3 commune has 2 landslides on National Highway 49. + Thuy Xuan ward area:
Km 23+800 of National Highway 49, from Cham to Tuan Bridge (Thuy Xuan Ward), has a landslide on the negative slope towards the bank of Huong River, with a risk of further landslides; the force has put up warning signs of a narrow road, allowing traffic to flow in one lane, and guards are on duty to monitor.
In A Luoi 3 commune, there are 15 landslides on inter-village and inter-commune roads; 6 landslides on the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Highway...
National Highway 1 through the area is currently open (the section through Phu Xuan and Thuan Hoa wards is diverted towards the Hue bypass). On the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway, at Km 12+300, a landslide occurred on the positive slope, causing a traffic jam; at Km 14+00, water overflowed onto the road, currently diverting towards National Highway 1 (from La Son intersection).
The Ho Chi Minh Road West branch from Km313 - Km372 (A Roang) has been opened to traffic, please be careful when traveling on the route. The section from Km372 - Km413 is currently congested. National Highway 49A from Hue city center to A Luoi has landslides at many points, a section is being opened to ensure traffic from Hue - A Luoi direction.
Most of the provincial roads are still deeply flooded and impassable. The urban roads are deeply flooded, and authorities are continuing to barricade and prohibit vehicles from entering to ensure safety.
