On the morning of September 17, the fence from Tay Ho ward to Dong Anh commune was completed. Meanwhile, in the opposite direction to the inner city, the new fence system was installed for about 50% of the route length.
A representative of the Hanoi Department of Construction said that the erection of iron fences is necessary to reduce conflicts and ensure traffic safety. Previously, although there were lane markings, motorbikes often encroached on the car lane, posing a potential risk of accidents. The iron fences on Nhat Tan Bridge were also implemented in sync with the previously applied Vo Chi Cong route.
However, many motorbike drivers believe that the dedicated lane is “too narrow”. In case of increased traffic or an incident, the risk of congestion may be prolonged. Authorities said that they will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation to have appropriate adjustment plans, ensuring harmony between safety and travel needs.
Notably, despite the presence of dividing fences, there are still many cases of motorbikes deliberately entering the car lane, causing unsafety and potential risk of collision.
