Studying hard to get a good degree, many students are disappointed and cannot find a job.

Currently, a number of students hold excellent graduation certificates but still struggle to find the job they want.

After 4 years of hard work, Dong Thi Thanh Ha (24 years old, Hung Yen) graduated with honors in Business Administration from a university of economics in Hanoi. For the female student, the degree is proof of years of serious study.

Right after graduating, Thanh Ha started her journey of submitting applications, going to interviews and receiving a series of rejections. "I thought that as long as I studied theory well, got high scores, and got a good degree, I would easily get a job, but it turned out that companies didn't care much about that. They asked about skills, practical experience, how to handle situations... but I was confused and didn't know how to answer," Thanh Ha recounted.

Although she was introduced to several companies by acquaintances, she still could not stay because she was constantly evaluated as not suitable for the job requirements. Looking at her friends who studied at less famous schools, even graduated with good degrees, passed the interview and had stable jobs with attractive salaries, Thanh Ha could not help but feel sad.

Once dreaming of becoming a business manager at a large enterprise, now she just wants to have a stable job and gradually rebuild her career journey.

Nguyen Hoai Nam (23 years old, Hanoi), a bachelor of Marketing, also struggled to find a job despite graduating with honors. Since he was a student, the male student set a goal of studying well to get a good degree, believing that it would be a "ticket" to enter a professional working environment and develop a stable career. Like Thanh Ha, reality made Hoai Nam disillusioned.

“I applied everywhere but very few places called me for interviews. Some places commented that I had solid professional knowledge, but lacked soft skills, had no practical experience, and was weak in foreign languages. Some places agreed to accept me but the salary was too low,” Nam shared.

Currently, Nam works as a salesman for a functional food company. Although he knows this choice is very difficult and makes his family sad, the young man has no other choice. Looking back on his past, Hoai Nam realizes that if he had been proactive in doing internships and gaining more experience during his student years instead of just focusing on studying theory, perhaps his job application journey would have been easier.

In reality, after graduating from university, many students are disillusioned when entering the labor market. Many new graduates with excellent degrees accept jobs unrelated to their training, or do manual labor, and even become unemployed because they do not meet recruitment requirements.

According to Mr. Bui The Anh, Deputy Director of an engineering company in Hai Phong, today's society has changed a lot in the way it perceives the value of a university degree.

"In the past, a bachelor's degree was a dream and a real competitive advantage in the labor market. Anyone with a university degree was considered educated, capable of taking on professional work, and even a guarantee of success. But now, going to university has become popular, which means the value of a degree is no longer as highly classified as before," said Mr. The Anh.

According to this person, in the context of modern recruitment, businesses no longer evaluate candidates based solely on academic qualifications or good degrees, but prioritize those with the ability to perform the job, the spirit of learning and a positive attitude. It is not just about learning knowledge from books, but also training the ability to work in a team, communicate, handle situations and adapt to change. That is what employers need from new graduates.

"We have met many candidates with impressive degrees but lack flexibility, basic skills, and even do not know how to present ideas clearly, and unfortunately, they were not selected," said Mr. The Anh. Degrees are only one part, while real ability and adaptability are the deciding factors in whether a person can survive in the labor market or not.

Sharing the same opinion, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Son, former Deputy Head of the Department of Radio and Television, Academy of Journalism and Communication, said that overemphasizing degrees makes many students only focus on achieving high scores, forgetting to practice skills and accumulate practical experience.

Right from high school, the pressure of grades from parents weighs heavily on students. Therefore, many educational environments have to find ways to meet the needs of exams and make their academic records look good instead of focusing on real learning ability.

A person with high scores and a good degree does not necessarily mean that he or she will do well in the job. Many professions require both technical knowledge and soft skills. Therefore, a degree should not be the sole measure of a person's ability.

According to Mr. Son, from family, school, society to recruitment units, everyone needs to have a more synchronized and realistic view of the value of a university degree. "A good or excellent degree can help you gain points in the eyes of employers, but it is not the deciding factor in success in interviews or job applications later on," Mr. Son emphasized.
