Ms. Nong Bich Thuan, President of the Provincial Red Cross Association, said: Identifying community health care as one of the key areas, the associations at all levels have focused on innovating their methods of operation, strengthening coordination with medical units, hospitals, businesses, philanthropists, the Provincial Young Doctors Association, etc. to organize medical examinations, provide free medicine, health consultations, and promote disease prevention. Each program not only contributes to reducing the burden of medical costs but also spreads the spirit of sharing and responsibility in society.
Medical examination and free medicine distribution is one of the most prominent activities in community health care of the Red Cross Society. In order for this activity to be highly effective, every year, the Red Cross Society at all levels proactively develops plans, mobilizes the participation of staff, members, Red Cross volunteers, and actively coordinates with the health sector and related units to organize medical examinations, health consultations and free medicine distribution for the poor, meritorious people, the elderly, and victims of Agent Orange... From 2022 to present, the Red Cross Society at all levels in the province has coordinated to provide medical examinations, health consultations and free medicine distribution to nearly 20,000 people with a total value of about 3.5 billion VND.
Ms. Hoang Thi Bien, Xuan Long commune, Cao Loc district said: I am old and weak, my family is in difficult circumstances so I do not have the conditions to visit medical facilities for regular health check-ups. In January 2025, when I heard that a group of doctors and nurses would come to Cao Loc town to examine, treat patients and provide free medicine, I went for a check-up and was given free medicine. I am very grateful to the organizers for implementing such practical programs.
A notable feature is that in the past 5 years, the coordination of medical examination and treatment activities has not only been limited to units in the province but also expanded to other provinces and cities. Typically, from 2023 to present, the Provincial Red Cross Association has coordinated with the Hanoi Red Scarf House Support Fund to organize medical examinations and provide free medicine for 200 people, donate 60 water filters and 50 gifts to disadvantaged households with a value of over 150 million VND; coordinate with Duc Minh Medical Joint Stock Company (Hanoi city) to donate 3 immunofluorescence analyzers to medical centers in the districts: Cao Loc, Binh Gia, Dinh Lap with a value of nearly 200 million VND; coordinate with Hanoi High-Tech Eye Hospital to organize medical examinations and provide free medicine for more than 5,000 people, support nearly 200 people with phaco, intermediate and laser surgery with a value of over 900 million VND...
Along with medical examination and treatment, health care support models such as "Pot of love porridge", "Compassionate rice" ... are also maintained and well implemented by the Red Cross Associations of districts and cities. These models are deployed in hospitals, schools, and medical centers with the participation of a large number of volunteers and philanthropists. From 2024 to present, the total value of the models has reached nearly 2 billion VND, an increase of nearly 1.5 billion VND compared to 2022.
Ms. Truong Thi Kim Oanh, President of the Cao Loc District Red Cross Association, said: Currently, the district has many models to support patients at the District Medical Center such as: "Charity Meal" to support patients with lunch on the 13th and 27th (lunar calendar) every month; "Charity Porridge Pot" to support patients on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday mornings every week... with a total value of more than 200 million VND/year. Through the above specific activities, we have contributed to providing nutrition for patients; at the same time, we have integrated propaganda on health care, personal hygiene... to raise people's awareness.
In addition, voluntary blood donation, first aid, and mobilization of people to register for organ and tissue donation have also been implemented by Red Cross societies at all levels and have achieved many positive results. Currently, the whole province has 105 people registered to donate organs and human body parts, and 60 people have been issued cards.
With active, proactive and creative participation, the Red Cross Associations at all levels have been contributing to taking care of people's health in a sustainable and humane way. In the coming time, the Associations at all levels will continue to promote propaganda work, focus on mobilizing resources, coordinate with sectors, organizations and localities; summarize, summarize and introduce good practices and effective models of people's health care for replication; promptly honor and reward groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in people's health care work...
