Mr. D's face is always red due to dilated capillaries. People often misunderstand that he drinks alcohol at work.
Mr. NQD (27 years old, real estate consultant), every time he meets customers, he faces suspicious eyes. His face is always red, like he has just drunk alcohol.
Recently, during a meeting to sign a contract, the client suspected that Mr. D. had been drinking alcohol, so he decided not to sign the contract. The feeling of being rejected because of something he could not control made Mr. D. very sad.
Dr. Dang Thi Ngoc Bich consults Mr. D.
Mr. D. has tried many ways to treat his telangiectasia, such as taking medicine and applying medicine, but they did not bring the desired results. To cover up the red skin on his face, Mr. D. chose to apply sunscreen and foundation, but this more or less caused him to be teased about his gender, and his face often had acne and inflammation.
Mr. D. came to Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment. Here, he was consulted and treated by doctors using vascular laser technology.
Telangiectasia can come from many causes.
According to Dr. Dang Thi Ngoc Bich, Head of Dermatology - Cosmetic Dermatology, telangiectasia occurs when the blood vessels just below the skin are dilated and appear red on the skin surface, often red or blue. This condition often appears in some thin skin areas on the face, thighs, and legs, causing the patient to feel hot, red, and stinging due to red blood cells escaping from the blood vessels.
Telangiectasia can come from many different causes, such as weather changes, frequent exposure to sunlight, exposure to chemicals, and alcohol use. Telangiectasia can also come from genetic factors. In addition, some people suffer from rosacea, a condition in which capillaries are dilated, leading to frequent redness of the skin, like Mr. D's condition.
Mr. D's telangiectasia improved after 2 laser treatments.
According to Dr. Bich, red face due to dilated capillaries is misunderstood by many people as drunkenness, which is understandable. Because when using alcohol, beer, alcohol will affect the autonomic nervous system, causing vasoconstriction or dilation (mostly vasodilation). If vasodilation occurs, the cells in the blood vessel walls will open, and substances in the blood vessels will move to the skin, causing the skin to turn red and hot.
A small number of people will experience capillary constriction, leading to a lack of nutrients, making the skin pale and cold. The condition of capillary constriction and dilation when drinking alcohol will automatically go away after a period of time, depending on each person.
“There are currently several ways to treat telangiectasia such as topical medication, sclerotherapy, IPL light therapy, and vascular laser technology. Of these, vascular laser technology is considered to be more effective than other methods,” said Dr. Bich.
After 2 treatments 3 weeks apart with 4D laser with 1064 nm wavelength and long pulse, affecting deep layers of epidermis, reaching the walls of blood vessels, causing the walls to constrict, Mr. D.'s blushing has reduced by about 50-60%. "It's been a long time since I felt confident and comfortable meeting and talking with customers," Mr. D. shared.
Dr. Bich said that, normally, patients with telangiectasia only need to undergo 3 laser vascular treatments. Each treatment is 3 weeks apart, which significantly improves the telangiectasia, and the skin color returns to almost normal. After treatment, a period of monitoring is needed to see if the telangiectasia recurs and to come up with a next solution.
