
At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his pleasure to meet the President of the Belgian House of Representatives and Senate and parliamentarians in the Belgian Parliamentary Delegation attending this IPU Conference; highly appreciated the success of the State visit to Vietnam by the King and Queen of Belgium, and shared his meeting with King Philippe of Belgium on this occasion to discuss orientations for relations between the two countries.
Belgian parliamentary leaders affirmed that the King and Queen of Belgium were very pleased with the State visit to Vietnam, especially the respect and hospitality of the Vietnamese people; and commented that the visit opens up a bright future for relations between the two countries.
The leaders of the two Belgian parliaments also expressed their pleasure at meeting National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on this occasion; affirming that many Belgian parliamentarians are close friends with deep affection for Vietnam, which is an important foundation to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two countries as well as between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Belgian Parliament.

The leaders of the two sides agreed that the parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and Belgium is being effectively implemented at all levels, with many high-level contacts and delegation exchanges between specialized committees; the two sides need to coordinate to implement the Cooperation Agreement between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Belgian Parliament to deepen the cooperation between the two countries and their legislative bodies.
Appreciating the Belgian Parliament’s adoption of a Resolution on supporting Vietnamese Agent Orange victims, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his hope that the Belgian Parliament will soon have practical and specific projects to implement the Resolution; at the same time, urge the Parliaments of EU countries to adopt similar Resolutions.

To promote bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation, the National Assembly Chairman asked the Belgian Parliament to support the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the IUU “yellow card” for Vietnamese seafood exported to the EU, and hoped that the Belgian Parliament would soon ratify the Vietnam – EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to create more favorable conditions for investors from both countries.
The Leaders also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including enhancing coordination to contribute to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man respectfully invited the President of the Belgian House of Representatives and Senate to soon visit Vietnam.
