Reporting to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and delegates at the meeting, Deputy Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen said that since the beginning of this year, the City People's Committee has focused on directing sectors and levels to synchronously deploy key tasks and solutions to implement the socio-economic development plan.

Accordingly, the city's economic growth rate is quite high, reaching 7.15% over the same period, the highest increase over the same period in the past 3 years; the scale of the economy continues to expand, the total product in the city in 2024 will reach over 133 trillion VND; domestic revenue will reach over 12 trillion VND; average income per capita will reach 105 million VND - all increased compared to 2023.
Quality and competitiveness have been gradually improved; cooperation, regional linkages, domestic and international linkages have been strengthened. The fields of culture, society, education, health, employment, living conditions and implementation of social security policies have made positive progress. The material and spiritual life of the people has been constantly improved and enhanced.

Speaking at the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his emotion at meeting the heroic Vietnamese Mothers, former Central leaders and leaders of Can Tho City and Hau Giang Province through the periods in the sacred atmosphere of the historic April days; at the same time, he conveyed the regards and wishes of good health from General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the Mothers and comrades.
The National Assembly Chairman was pleased to announce the country's outstanding and extremely important achievements after 50 years of liberating the South and unifying the country, and nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation process. Accordingly, the economic scale reached 476.3 billion USD, the average income per capita was about 4,700 USD; the budget revenue reached about 2 million billion VND. Vietnam currently has diplomatic relations with about 200 countries; ranking 32nd among developed economies.

The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that the whole country is currently focusing on implementing two 100-year goals: by 2030, becoming a modern industrialized country with an upper middle income; by 2045, our country will become a developed country with a high income. "We must strive for continuous double-digit growth to achieve these goals, with an immediate goal of 8% growth in 2025. Can Tho has also registered with the Government to strive for a growth rate of 8-10% in 2025, striving to achieve an average income higher than the national average," the National Assembly Chairman stated.
Currently, the whole country is focusing on implementing the revolution of streamlining the organizational apparatus of the political system, merging the provincial level, implementing the 2-level local government model, continuing to arrange the commune level... The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that this is a very large policy, which has been implemented before, but this time it is implemented on a larger scale, comprehensively with the entire political system and the whole country. Along with that, we are holding Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Congress of the Party, preparing to organize the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

As for Can Tho, according to the Central Government's policy, it will soon merge with Hau Giang and Soc Trang.
"When merged, the area of the new Can Tho city will be about 6,400 km2, with a population of more than 4 million people. This is the potential for the centrally-governed city in the Southwest region and the Mekong Delta to develop more strongly in the coming time."
Emphasizing this, the National Assembly Chairman hopes that former Central leaders, heroic Vietnamese mothers, leaders of Can Tho city and Hau Giang province through the periods will continue to pay attention, support, and contribute many enthusiastic opinions to the development of the new Can Tho city and to the implementation of policies and major revolutions in organizational apparatus, local government, science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation... that the Party, State and the entire political system are resolutely implementing.

Recently, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with voters, worked with Can Tho city, discussed tasks and solutions for the city's development, especially emphasizing the spirit of solidarity and unity so that Can Tho after the merger can develop strongly.
Reiterating the above spirit, the National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the Central Government always pays attention and creates favorable conditions for the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho in particular to develop more and more; believes that Can Tho will successfully carry out the tasks of 2025 and the tasks in the coming time.
