National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man speaks at the High-level Plenary Session of the 150th IPU Assembly

On the morning of April 6 local time, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man delivered an important speech at the High-level Plenary Session of the 150th Inter- Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-150).

As the first parliamentary leader to speak at the session, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the session's theme of "Parliamentary action for development and social justice" as having extremely practical and urgent significance. In the context of the world facing unpredictable fluctuations, from climate change to inequality and political conflicts, national parliaments play a very important role in supporting and promoting sustainable development to address common challenges.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that the 150th IPU General Assembly is a valuable opportunity for member parliaments to exchange and share experiences and seek solutions to promote sustainable development and social justice globally.

Affirming that sustainable development must go hand in hand with progress and social equity, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that development cannot be considered a success if a significant portion of the population is still left behind. Therefore, the task of parliaments is to ensure that all policies aim to narrow the gap between rich and poor, ensuring that all people - regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity or social class - benefit from the fruits of development.

Sharing about Vietnam's efforts towards this goal, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly has been making efforts to create a fair legal and policy system, promoting people's participation in the process of policy making and implementation.

Emphasizing that Vietnam is moving towards a new era of development, an era of wealth and prosperity, the National Assembly Chairman said that the Vietnamese National Assembly is making efforts to perfect the legal framework, promptly remove institutional shortcomings to unleash resources, apply science and technology, innovate, digital transformation, develop a green economy and convert energy to bring the country to rapid, strong and sustainable development, ensuring social justice. He affirmed: "The Vietnamese National Assembly pledges to continue to accompany parliaments around the world, determined to realize noble goals for a world of peace, sustainable development, fairness and betterment for all humanity."

Sharing his views on the rapidly changing world, with today's challenges becoming much more complex problems in the future, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man proposed a number of orientations for parliaments to strengthen international cooperation, share experiences and support each other in building development policies, responding promptly and effectively to current challenges.

According to the National Assembly Chairman, parliaments need to take the spirit of development creation as the core in carrying out the mission and role of the National Assembly and parliaments. In particular, focusing on perfecting the legal system, along with the work of supervising the implementation and creating conditions for the effective implementation of inclusive, comprehensive and breakthrough development policies.

The National Assembly Chairman noted that it is necessary to put the people at the center, truly affirm the nature of the elected body, and take fairness and social progress as the highest measure of development. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen coordination of actions and international cooperation among member parliaments, especially in the work of protecting peace, resolving disputes and disagreements on the basis of international law. The IPU Forum can create a stronger and more effective network of mutual support among member parliaments.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed that no country or society can develop sustainably without putting people at the center of all policies. He called on all parliamentarians and all countries to take stronger action and work together to build a fair, prosperous and sustainable world.
