
At the reception, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc highly appreciated the Vietnam - Canada cooperation relationship, in which the relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Canada has developed well, achieving many substantive results in various fields.
Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that many Canadian enterprises have successfully invested in Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City; many Canadian schools have brought advanced educational models to Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to improving the quality of education. The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee thanked the Government, the Embassy and the Consulate General of Canada for their contributions to the increasingly effective cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Canadian localities.
Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc said that Ho Chi Minh City is implementing key tasks according to the Resolution of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, aiming to become the economic , financial, scientific and technological center of the region. In that spirit, Ho Chi Minh City wishes to strengthen cooperation with Canada in many fields.
Regarding education, Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc proposed expanding cooperation with Canadian universities, training high-quality experts, enhancing people-to-people exchanges and organizing cultural events. Regarding clean energy and the environment, according to Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc, Ho Chi Minh City is undergoing a green transformation and is in great need of experienced Canadian investors in the fields of renewable energy and wastewater treatment. Regarding agriculture and processing industry, Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc hopes to promote agricultural exports to Canada and cooperate in industrial production and processing.
Canadian Ambassador Jim Nickel thanked the city leaders for taking the time to receive the delegation. He said this was his second visit to Ho Chi Minh City, after his first visit in 1998, and expressed his impression of the city's strong development. The Ambassador congratulated the Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress on its success, affirming that Canada considers Ho Chi Minh City a strategic destination for investment and trade promotion.
Ambassador Jim Nickel also said that on October 26, the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Canada are expected to meet on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit to discuss measures to further promote bilateral relations. The Ambassador expressed his approval of the cooperation proposals of Ho Chi Minh City leaders, affirming that Canada is ready to accompany the city in areas where both sides have strengths and common needs.
