Ensuring the safety of boarding meals

After the flood, the school system, including many kindergartens, was severely affected. When the water receded, the concern was not only to restore the facilities, but also to ensure the safety of the children's meals, in the context of the post-flood environment posing many potential risks of food safety and hygiene.

At 19-5 Kindergarten (Phan Dinh Phung Ward), the entire kitchen area was flooded more than 1.5 meters deep. When the water receded, mud and dirt covered the entire equipment and utensils used for processing and cooking were severely damaged. Right in the first days of the water receding, the staff and teachers were on duty day and night, coordinating with support forces to clean and disinfect the entire school campus, especially the kitchen area.

Ms. Ca Nguyen Phuong Linh, principal of the school, said: We determined to thoroughly clean the kitchen before allowing the children to return to school. Every pot, every bowl, every corner of the floor was washed and disinfected many times. While waiting to purchase new equipment, the school temporarily borrowed tools from the food supplier to maintain the kitchen for the children.

Up to this point, the school kitchen has been back in operation, serving about 500 boarding children every day. The food source is provided by the Thai Nguyen clean food chain unit, ensuring clear origin and quality control.

The school also pays special attention to the source of domestic water and cooking water, because the water filtration system is flooded and cannot be operated again. Currently, the unit has been supported with purified bottled water and clean water for daily use, and has coordinated to urgently replace and repair the entire filtration system to soon have a standard water source for children.

Unlike School 19-5, Quang Vinh Kindergarten (Quan Trieu Ward) is located in an area deeply flooded by heavy rain and floods, and is one of the most severely damaged areas. Rising floodwaters have swept away many properties and damaged most of the facilities. Up to now, the school is still making efforts every day to overcome the consequences, restore the teaching area and the boarding kitchen.

Ms. Trinh Thi Thanh Binh, Principal of the School, informed: In difficult conditions, we still try to maintain the organization of boarding meals for more than 100 children. Every step from receiving, processing to storing food samples is strictly controlled. Food safety is now a vital factor.

Despite the limitations in equipment, the school has proactively arranged and temporarily borrowed some cooking utensils, prioritizing the repair of the kitchen and dining room. Many groups, social organizations and benefactors have supported the school with materials and necessities, helping teachers and students to stabilize their activities soon.

After the floods, the risk of environmental and water pollution still exists in many areas. Ensuring food safety in school canteens therefore becomes an urgent requirement.

Schools are currently facing difficulties in terms of facilities and equipment, but are still trying to strictly control food sources, clean water and processing procedures. This is the time to further strengthen inspection and supervision work to protect students' health and maintain parents' trust after natural disasters...
