On January 1, Ms. Phan Ngoc Huyen - Secretary of the Tan Quy Tay Commune Youth Union (Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) - said that on the occasion of the 2025 New Year, the Tan Quy Tay Commune Youth Union coordinated with Tan Tuc Traffic Police Station to launch a nail suction team to support traffic.
Joining the above team is Mr. Dinh Minh Canh (a motorbike taxi driver) pulling a nail suction cart on Highway 1 through Binh Chanh district.
Ms. Huyen said that the deployment of nail-sucking troops like the above has been implemented for several years, usually during holidays and Tet to ensure traffic safety for road users. In parallel, Tan Quy Tay Commune Youth Union has coordinated activities with Tan Tuc Traffic Police Station to distribute free water to people during holidays and Tet, or support traffic regulation.
Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of January 1, Mr. Dinh Minh Canh said that for the past few years, during the holidays, he has participated in the nail suction team to support traffic with the Tan Quy Tay Commune Youth Union as well as the Tan Tuc Traffic Police Station.
During the 2025 New Year campaign, the number of sharp objects collected by the nail suction truck decreased significantly compared to before. Among the sharp objects collected, there were no diamond-shaped nails (also known as "ace diamond" nails).
Specifically, on the occasion of the New Year last year, the number of sharp objects that were sucked up was about two to two and a half cups, and on the occasion of the New Year this year, about one cup was sucked up, mainly pieces from brake wires, iron... "I'm happy that people can travel safely and not think about nail thieves anymore, sucking up nails is also easier" - Mr. Canh shared.
In addition to participating in the nail-sucking team during the campaigns, Mr. Canh usually goes to suck nails about 4 times a week. During holidays and Tet, when people have higher travel needs, he increases the frequency of going to suck nails about 6 times a week.
Regarding the above encouraging signal, Mr. Canh said that it was due to the attention of functional agencies, units and the drastic participation of Binh Chanh District Police.
