On May 19, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ) issued an official dispatch to hospitals under the Ministry, Departments of Health of provinces and centrally run cities, as well as medical units under ministries and branches, requesting to strengthen the detection and treatment of Covid-19 patients.
According to the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, the Covid-19 epidemic situation in the world is currently on the rise in some countries such as Brazil, UK, Thailand...
In Vietnam, from the beginning of 2025 until now, 148 cases have been recorded scattered in 27 provinces and cities but there have been no deaths.
In order to proactively respond to the epidemic, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management requests leaders of hospitals and institutes with beds under the Ministry of Health , directors of local health departments and heads of medical units to urgently update and review plans for receiving and treating Covid-19 patients according to forecast scenarios. It is necessary to avoid being passive and surprised in response work.
In addition, medical facilities need to fully prepare infrastructure, isolation areas, medical equipment and supplies to serve the work of admission, diagnosis, treatment as well as infection control.
The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment also emphasized the need to strengthen measures to prevent the spread of infection, especially respiratory infections, to minimize the risk of outbreaks in medical facilities. In particular, it is necessary to protect vulnerable groups of patients such as pregnant women, the elderly, people with underlying diseases, people with serious illnesses, as well as intensive care, cardiovascular, dialysis, and surgical departments.
In addition, hospitals need to pay attention to environmental sanitation, arrange departments reasonably, ensure airy and clean treatment spaces, creating favorable conditions for care and disease prevention.
According to the request of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, units must strictly implement the case reporting regime according to the provisions of Circular 54/2015/TT-BYT dated December 28, 2015 on guidelines for reporting and declaring infectious diseases and epidemics.
Previously, the Ministry of Health also said that although there has not been a large outbreak, the number of cases has tended to increase slightly in the past 3 weeks, with an average of about 20 cases per week.
Some localities recorded many cases including Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Nghe An, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Binh Duong.
Faced with this reality, the Ministry of Health has enhanced monitoring and strengthened epidemic prevention and control measures at both medical facilities and the community. At the same time, it is ready to admit and effectively treat cases, especially those in high-risk groups, to minimize deaths.
The Ministry of Health continues to recommend that people comply with epidemic prevention measures, especially pay attention to health monitoring when returning from countries with high numbers of cases to protect themselves, their families and the community.
In addition, the Ministry also closely coordinates with the World Health Organization to monitor global epidemic developments and adjust appropriate epidemic prevention measures in the coming time.
