Education sector database contributes to 'enriching' national database

GD&TĐ - On the morning of July 28, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son had a working session with the delegation of the Central Steering Committee on science, technology development, innovation and digital transformation.

Also attending the meeting were Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc, leaders of Departments and Bureaus under the Ministry of Education and Training . The delegation included Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long - Deputy Minister of Public Security, Head of Working Group No. 3 of the Central Steering Committee's Support Group. The meeting focused on assessing and reviewing national databases and specialized databases.

Reporting at the meeting, Ms. Dang Thi Oanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Information (Ministry of Education and Training) said that as of June 2025, the Ministry had digitized about 50,000 educational institutions, more than 27 million electronic records of students, over 1.4 million teachers and over 115,000 electronic records of managers and employees.

The Ministry of Education and Training has connected, identified, and authenticated; and enriched the national population database with about 24.3 million electronic records of citizens who are teachers and students.

In particular, from 2022 to now, each year there are over 1 million candidates registering online for the high school graduation exam and applying for university and college admission. They have benefited from this database.

According to Ms. Dang Thi Oanh, as of June 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training has digitized 470 higher education institutions; more than 177 thousand electronic records of staff, lecturers and employees; over 4 million electronic records of learners; over 34 thousand training program information; more than 9 thousand training industry information; more than 44 thousand information on science and technology tasks; over 117 articles have been published domestically.

In addition, more than 101 learners, over 10,400 teachers, managers and 208 vocational training institutions have been digitized.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized the importance of the sector database in statistics and connection work; at the same time, he acknowledged that in recent years, the Ministry of Public Security, together with other ministries, central agencies, enterprises and relevant agencies, have paid attention to and supported the Ministry of Education and Training in State management work; including building a database for the education sector.

The application of digital transformation to some stages of the High School Graduation Exam and university and college admissions is one of the clear demonstrations of the benefits of building a national database.

From the results achieved, Minister Nguyen Kim Son hopes that in the near future, a national database of teaching and research materials in the education sector will be built to serve the management of expertise, education, training and scientific research.

Acknowledging the achievements of the Ministry of Education and Training in building a sectoral database, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long - Deputy Minister of Public Security, Head of Working Group No. 3 suggested that the Ministry of Education and Training needs to build a national database foundation according to the principles: correct - sufficient - clean - alive.

To do so, it is necessary to evaluate and review the infrastructure of the education sector to see if it is consistent from the central to local levels and connected to the country. Currently, data on students registering for high school graduation exams and university admissions can serve the Ministry of Education and Training in management and operation, contributing to improving the quality of education and training.

Emphasizing that the Ministry of Education and Training needs to continue to direct the promotion of digital transformation, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long suggested that it is necessary to closely coordinate with professional units to develop a data architecture for the education sector. This architecture is not only national in nature, but can be interconnected and connected with international data for sharing, cooperation and integration.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training needs to develop a detailed plan, clearly defining people, tasks, responsibilities and results; in particular, ensuring security and safety for the System; in which priority is given to databases that immediately serve administrative procedures and general operations of the Government; especially in the context of implementing a 2-level local government model.
