Increase economic efficiency

Program No. 28-CTr/TU of the Provincial Party Committee on tasks and breakthrough solutions for agricultural development in a modern and sustainable direction until 2025 and orientation to 2030 has significantly contributed to bringing science , technology, and digital transformation to be more and more present in rice fields, shrimp farms, on farms, and even in the open sea. From there, the province's agriculture has gradually transformed from agricultural production thinking to agricultural economy .

Without much equipment, just with a smartphone and a computer, Mr. Nguyen Chien Thang (Huynh Nuoi hamlet, Bien Bach commune) has established the YouTube channel Muoi Thang civet farm, Thoi Binh, Ca Mau, with tens of thousands of subscribers and followers. Mr. Thang shared: "Based on the fact that the market in the region is not much, to find and expand the output for breeding civets and commercial civets, I built a YouTube channel. Through the YouTube channel, not only to sell products but also to exchange and share experiences in raising civets ".

Mr. Nguyen Chien Thang (Huynh Nuoi Hamlet, Bien Bach Commune) filmed and shared his experiences and mink breeding products on his personal YouTube channel.

After more than 2 years of establishing the YouTube channel, Mr. Thang's family business activities are almost all conducted through this channel. "Currently, more than 80% of breeding and commercial mink are sold through transactions on the YouTube channel. Thanks to better business efficiency, the number of breeding mink has increased significantly," Mr. Thang confided.

Transformation in a modern direction

Currently, digital technologies such as sensors, artificial intelligence (AI)… are being applied to monitor and manage crops, soil moisture, air quality, and animal health. Automation technology has been widely applied in many different stages.

Ms. Le Kieu Hieu, Deputy Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, shared that in rice cultivation, there is now a smart pest monitoring system through software on the phone, helping farmers take proactive measures, save costs and minimize damage during the cultivation process.

“Technical advances, especially high technology and digital technology applied in production in recent times, have initially brought about efficiency, helping farmers improve rice quality, reduce production costs, and increase profits by 1.5-3.5 million VND/ha/crop compared to conventional production,” Ms. Hieu added.

In addition to the application of digital technology in production, business and management, digital technology is becoming a powerful "arm" for local agencies and authorities. Applying information technology to the management of combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is a typical example.

With 3 software including: Interconnected management software to control fishing vessels, ensuring that when fishing vessels enter and exit the seaport, they must be controlled by fishing ports, IUU offices and border control stations; Excel Online Data Sheet application on Google Sheets platform for localities to report and store data on anti-IUU fishing work and automatic switchboard to notify and receive reports on the location of fishing vessels losing connection signals offshore is considered a breakthrough in monitoring and handling fishing vessels losing connection signals offshore.

With the interoperable management software for controlling fishing vessels, it is ensured that when fishing vessels enter and exit the seaport, they must be controlled by the fishing port, IUU office and border control station.

Mr. Huynh Thach Sum, Head of the Department of Sea, Islands and Fisheries Surveillance, shared that applying information technology in combating IUU fishing contributes to improving State management capacity, increasing data transparency, reducing IUU fishing violations, protecting aquatic resources and supporting fishermen to comply with regulations, for the sustainable development of the marine economy according to the Strategy for sustainable development of the marine economy of Vietnam to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Digital technology is gradually making an important contribution to transforming Ca Mau's agriculture in a modern direction, from single sector to multi-sector, multi-value cooperation and development; shifting from agricultural product supply chains to developing commodity chains, especially the province's key products such as shrimp, crab, rice, planted forests and other special products with high competitive advantages...

Automation technology has been widely applied in many different stages, from sorting, packaging, mass production lines and labeling, from large factories to cooperatives and individual businesses.

Although there are still many difficulties, Ca Mau agriculture is developing relatively comprehensively and sustainably, gradually applying science and technology to production, concentrated livestock farming, ecological, organic, circular production, applying high technology, achieving certification according to standards, aiming for green growth./.
