Among the statements that have been shared by many people in the past few days after General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away, there are statements that the General Secretary made directly when meeting voters in several districts of Hanoi .

The General Secretary spoke very deeply about the issues voters are concerned about.

As someone who has attended more than 10 meetings with voters of the General Secretary, Mr. Dinh Gia Khanh, Secretary of Party Cell 4 (Party Committee of Giang Vo Ward, Ba Dinh District) shared the same feeling as many other voters, feeling disappointed when the official news was announced.

Mr. Khanh used to be the Director and Party Secretary of Hanoi Electromechanical Company, a business under the Hanoi Party Committee, so he had the opportunity to meet General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when he held the important position of Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee.

“The General Secretary is a man of work but always close. When he was Secretary of Hanoi, I sometimes went to the City Party Committee to report on work, and at the end of the day he often invited me to play table tennis. It was that closeness that erased the distance between superiors and subordinates. That is what impressed me the most,” Mr. Khanh recalled.

For Mr. Khanh, the opportunity to meet the General Secretary continued even after he retired and took on the position of Secretary of Party Cell 4, Giang Vo Ward Party Committee.

“For nearly 10 years, with more than 10 times attending meetings with voters of the Hanoi National Assembly delegation, I asked many questions, mainly focusing on the issue of anti-corruption and always received straightforward answers with a resolute attitude of fighting corruption to the end from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong,” Mr. Khanh recalled.

One obvious point is that the opinions raised by voters all show enthusiasm, support and belief in the policy of resolutely fighting corruption and negativity with "no forbidden areas, no exceptions" initiated by the General Secretary.

“With the work that the Party has done and the results announced in recent years, it has further strengthened my belief that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is an upright person, who does what he says, keeps what he promises, and directs the handling of cases in accordance with the spirit of no forbidden zones, the right person, the right crime, but still exuding humane thinking,” said Mr. Khanh.

Another interesting point is the way the General Secretary shares and responds to voters' opinions, very frankly and deeply when mentioning personnel work or handling corruption and negativity.

“The General Secretary’s use of words is very profound. For example, when talking about the work of evaluating cadres, “don’t mistake chickens for crows”, “don’t mistake red for ripe”, or when mentioning localism and factionalism, the General Secretary reminded us to avoid the situation of “crabs relying on their claws, fish relying on their fins”, Mr. Khanh shared.

Mr. Vuong Huu Phu, Secretary of Party Cell 7 (Vinh Phuc Ward, Ba Dinh District) also shared that being able to represent voters to meet with the Hanoi National Assembly delegation, including General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, is a great honor.

According to Mr. Phu, in the 4 times he was lucky, he still clearly remembers the General Secretary's attentive listening to each voter's opinion and careful note-taking.

“Before answering, the General Secretary always acknowledges that voters' opinions are "correct and accurate" so he really wants to hear more.

Mr. Phu recalled the meeting with voters in which he raised the issue on October 9, 2021, in which he mentioned the reality of some coast guard generals being corrupt and recommended that the Party, National Assembly, and Government be more determined and drastic in this work.

“That day, the General Secretary not only answered about fighting corruption but also affirmed that we must fight against negativity, prevent, repel and at the same time strictly handle the degradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyle,” Mr. Phu shared.

One very special thing for many voters attending General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's meetings is that when he arrived and when he finished, the General Secretary went directly down to the hall and shook hands very firmly with the voters.

“The General Secretary always took the initiative to come down to our place, shook hands firmly and shared sincerely and openly,” Mr. Phu said.

Even, there were times, before the end, as if knowing that people were expecting the cases to be handled, the General Secretary said, "You guys wait for the upcoming cases to be handled."

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has created great trust among the people.

Professor Nguyen Anh Tri, National Assembly Delegate of the 14th and 15th terms, shared his luck and honor of being with the Hanoi National Assembly Delegation with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for two terms.

During those nearly 10 years, Professor Nguyen Anh Tri felt that the General Secretary was a humble person, very close and very respectful of others.

The General Secretary always listened attentively to the opinions of the delegates. Through his eyes, gestures, and handshakes, the General Secretary always promptly encouraged the National Assembly delegates with good opinions.

“The General Secretary strongly encouraged the delegates to speak up, even if they were not in agreement… This helped the delegates feel secure in expressing their views,” Prof. Nguyen Anh Tri recalled.

The General Secretary has special respect and listening to scientists. He not only remembers their names but also remembers what the professors are doing.

“I am a scientist and a self-nominated National Assembly delegate, so right at the first meeting of the Hanoi National Assembly delegation of the 14th National Assembly term, the General Secretary gave me special attention.

I was moved because this was the first time I met the General Secretary in person and he remembered my name and academic title. After that, every time I spoke in the hall or discussed in the group, the General Secretary often shook my hand very firmly with a brief word of encouragement: "good idea, very good".

Not only that, the General Secretary was very interested, often asking about my work and family. In particular, when he learned that I was retiring (October 2017), many cadres, employees, students, and patients said goodbye emotionally. The General Secretary shook my hand and said, "It is an honor to work and retire like Professor Tri." Those words have always been an encouragement and motivation for me throughout my life," Professor Nguyen Anh Tri said.

According to Professor Nguyen Anh Tri, the consistent thing in the General Secretary is his attitude, spirit, and determination in the fight against corruption, clearly demonstrated in meetings with voters and the results of handling violating officials.

"This has created great trust among the people, creating Vietnam's position in the international arena," said Professor Nguyen Anh Tri.
