The Department of Sports and Physical Training denied inviting athletes' parents to meet with coaches.

"We are currently receiving reports from relevant units after the accusations from the national gymnastics team athletes. Because the incident involves many people, many units and many contents, we need to be careful and thorough," Mr. Dang Ha Viet, Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, shared with Dan Tri reporter.

Notably, on the afternoon of January 19, information appeared confirming that next week the Hanoi National Sports Training Center will hold a meeting to verify the explanation of the coaches, with the participation of parents of athletes of the national gymnastics team. After the verification results are available, the Center will report to the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Department of Physical Education and Sports.

However, Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet denied the above information and affirmed that the work plan of the Department of Sports and Physical Training as well as the specialized departments does not have this content.

"We are still receiving reports from the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, reports from each coach in the coaching staff and from the national gymnastics team athletes," Mr. Ha Viet added.

According to Dan Tri 's source, athlete Pham Nhu Phuong's accusation that the national gymnastics team's coaching staff falsified Sunday working days to enjoy state budget benefits and established illegal funds is being carefully verified by the Department of Sports and Physical Training because the incident occurred over a long period of time and involved about 30 athletes and coaches from 2020 to present.

Also on January 19, the Department of Sports and Physical Training sent an invitation and worked with former national gymnastics team athlete Pham Nhu Phuong in the morning.

The meeting aimed to listen to the thoughts and wishes of athlete Pham Nhu Phuong after her decision to retire when she was not called up to the national team in 2024, as well as to record her accusations about being "stripped" of 10% of her medal bonus, bonus money, and "dark areas" in the national gymnastics team.

In particular, the leaders of the Department of Sports and Physical Training also encouraged athlete Pham Nhu Phuong to change her decision to retire and return to training to contribute to national sports.
