VTV.vn - Mr. Tim Walz and Mr. JD Vance will have their first and only live debate before the 2024 US Presidential election, at 9:00 p.m. on October 1 (8:00 a.m. on October 2, Hanoi time).
The vice presidential debate took place at CBS headquarters in New York City. It was an opportunity for a Republican senator from Ohio (Mr. Vance) and a Democratic governor of Minnesota to introduce themselves, promote their presidential plans and show off their political talents. The confrontation between Mr. Tim Walz and Mr. JD Vance could have a big impact on this year's US presidential election. Polls show that Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have been in a fierce competition, adding weight to anything that can influence voters, including their impressions of the vice presidential candidates. The "battle" between the two vice presidential candidates could also be the last debate before the US presidential election in 2024 when Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump's campaign teams could not agree on a second debate. A new AP-NORC poll shows Walz is favored over Vance, potentially presenting Republicans with an additional challenge. Like the presidential debate, Walz and Vance will face off for 90 minutes, airing on CBS, ABC and live on ABC News Live. Under the rules agreed upon by both sides, there will be no audience and two four-minute commercial breaks. The debate will be moderated by Norah O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan. Unlike the presidential debate, however, the running mate's microphones will not be muted while the other is speaking, but CBS observers have the right to mute them.
Before the debate, there were many comments about the two vice presidential candidates. Senator Amy Klobuchar called Mr. Vance "a skilled debater" and said that Mr. Walz "is not a debater." Meanwhile, Jason Miller - a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump - had a completely different comment about vice presidential candidate Tim Walz. "Tim Walz is very good at debates, really good. He's been a politician for almost 20 years and will be very well prepared for tomorrow night," Mr. Miller told reporters. Mr. Miller also predicted that the Minnesota governor will be "much more discreet" than when he was campaigning. However, Mr. Miller also said: "That doesn't mean JD Vance won't prepare for the debate." Responding to reporters last week, Mr. Vance said he "didn't need to prepare much" for the debate because he had "clear views on public policy." To prepare for the debate, Sen. Vance enlisted the help of Minnesota Sen. Tom Emmer in debate rehearsals, playing the role of Governor Walz. The Ohio senator also held meetings with his team and Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign. Meanwhile, Governor Walz also held several mock debates with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who played Sen. Vance. Walz also held policy sessions with his longtime aides, President Joe Biden’s White House team and members of the Harris-Walz campaign.
