After more than a year in prison and facing sexual assault allegations, the life of former Barcelona defender Dani Alves took a surprising turn when he entered the religious path, becoming a preacher of God's word at a church in Girona.

Dani Alves' life has changed completely since his rape conviction was overturned by Catalonia's high court in March 2025, based on "inconsistencies and contradictions" in the original ruling.
Previously, the 41-year-old former player had to spend more than a year in prison and was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison, before being released on bail of 1.1 million USD.

According to the Spanish program Vamos a ver , Dani Alves has started a new and meaningful life. He regularly preaches about the Christian faith to believers at a local church.

In a viral video , the former player expressed: “I always felt that God is not far away. I used to be a runner on the sidelines, and now I want to say that God is not only up there, but right here with us.”

“You have to be serious about the things of God and have faith. I am a living testament to that. I have a covenant with God. In the midst of the storm, there was always a messenger of God. That person brought me back to the church, and today I stand here because of them. Now I live in the power of God,” Alves said, saying that it was faith that saved him in his darkest times.

However, everything came crashing down when he was arrested in January 2023. Although he was later released on bail and eventually acquitted, this event completely changed his direction. Before his official acquittal, Alves began expressing his religious beliefs on social media from late 2024, regularly posting Bible verses and calling himself a "disciple of Jesus".

Currently, the former defender is enjoying his new life with his wife, Joana Sanz, at a luxury villa in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona.

The couple recently welcomed their first child, marking a peaceful start, with faith becoming central to the Alves family's life.

Dani Alves is considered one of the greatest right-backs of the past 15 years. He has won 3 Champions Leagues, 6 La Liga with Barcelona, ​​2 UEFA Cups with Sevilla, Serie A with Juventus, and many other international titles such as Olympic gold medal and Copa America with Brazil.
