Former Serie A goalkeeper returns to action at age 82

Former goalkeeper with 112 Serie A appearances, Lamberto Boranga (Italy) announced that he will return to playing at the age of 82. He will play for Prima Categoria Trevana in October this year.

Recently, a video on social network X recorded the scene of former Italian goalkeeper Lamberto Boranga practicing diligently with his goalkeeper coach. At the age of 82, this man still performs goalkeeper exercises seriously, preparing well for his comeback.

In an interview with Ansa News Agency, the former Serie A goalkeeper shared about his return: "I will play a game in October and then we will see." In August 2025, he announced his return as a goalkeeper.

The 82-year-old's reason for taking the field was to prove that age is not an issue. On the other hand, Mr. Boranga is extremely optimistic about his ability to play in the match, although he admits that playing the full 90 minutes is very unlikely.

At his peak, Mr. Boranga played for Fiorentina, Brescia Calcio, AS Cesena and made a total of 112 appearances in Serie A. He officially hung up his gloves in 1983 and became a doctor for amateur team Bastardo.

Lamberto Boranga is also known as a runner. He hopes to inspire others who are enjoying their old age to return to the sport they once loved.

The former Italian goalkeeper has won 10 Masters athletics medals, in 11 European and world athletics events. In 2012, Boranga set a Masters world record in the triple jump with a distance of 10.75m.

When talking about the secret to maintaining his health, Mr. Boranga shared: “Eat less, but properly; no alcohol, no cigarettes and limited meat. Just soy milk and physical activity.”
