Speaking at the opening ceremony, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich emphasized the significance of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people 80 years ago.
Ambassador Bezdetko said: "The Great Patriotic War, as it was called in the former Soviet Union and today's Russia, was the bloodiest and most devastating war in human history. To win, the Soviet Union made extraordinary efforts and paid an unprecedented price: It suffered enormous material damage, many cities and villages were destroyed and more than 27 million Soviet citizens died... For us, May 9 will forever be a special, sacred day."
“The lessons of the Great Patriotic War confirm that world peace and comprehensive development can be ensured only on the basis of taking into account the opinion of each people, respecting the right of states to pursue an independent and sovereign policy based on traditional values,” Ambassador Bezdetko stressed.
The Russian Ambassador to Vietnam also remembered the Vietnamese international communist soldiers who died in the battle to defend Moscow. "We still remember that in the summer and autumn of 1941, during the battle in the Moscow suburbs, there were Vietnamese international soldiers in the ranks of the Red Army, five of whom died and were posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, First Class, for their heroism and bravery," Ambassador Bezdetko recalled.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha sent congratulations and deep gratitude to the people of the former Soviet Union and present-day Russia on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory Day of the Great Patriotic War.
Emphasizing the significance of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War - a brilliant milestone in human history, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said: "May 9, 1945 has entered human history as the great victory of the Soviet people and peace-loving forces around the world, of conscience and dignity. The victory in the Great Patriotic War smashed the fascist system, weakened the colonial empires, and opened a new chapter for oppressed peoples to rise up to gain independence, freedom, and happiness."

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that it was the power of the times originating from the Great Patriotic Victory that strongly encouraged the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, to win the August Revolution in 1945 and give birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.
Grateful for the great sacrifices of the Red Army soldiers and the Soviet people, Vietnam is also proud of its outstanding sons who fought bravely and heroically sacrificed their lives in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people during the fiercest days of the winter of 1941.
“We also always respectfully remember the great assistance of the State and people of the Soviet Union in the resistance wars to defend the Fatherland, build and develop the country; deeply appreciate the contributions of Soviet soldiers and experts who fought, sacrificed their blood and youth for the national independence and territorial integrity of Vietnam,” Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, this noble international spirit is a bright, eternal symbol of the faithful friendship between the Vietnamese and Russian peoples, a relationship that has been forged through the trials of history and continues to be nurtured in peace today. As a nation that has experienced many struggles against invaders, with countless sacrifices, losses and pain, Vietnam, more than anyone else, deeply understands the value of peace, independence and freedom.
During these historic days of May, General Secretary To Lam's official visit to Russia and participation in the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War will strengthen political trust and define new directions to bring the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia to new heights," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed that Vietnam always attaches special importance to the cooperative relationship with Russia; considering it a common and invaluable asset of the two countries and the two peoples of Vietnam and Russia. On that basis, the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia will be increasingly consolidated and developed across many key areas of economics-trade, defense-security, energy, education-training, science-technology, tourism and people-to-people exchange.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha believes that with a solid political foundation, deep trust, loyal friendship, vision and determination of the leaders and people of the two countries, Vietnam and Russia will continue to work together to overcome all challenges of the times.
The two countries will continue to write new pages in bilateral relations, walk side by side on the path of prosperous development in the new era, and make increasingly important contributions to regional and global peace, friendship and cooperation.
