In an interview with the press on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), General Sao Sokha - Commander of the Gendarmerie Command, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) emphasized that in the 20th century, Vietnam and Cambodia in particular, as well as the three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in general, were allied in the resistance wars against foreign invaders. Vietnam's victory on April 30, 1975 is a testament to the historical value of the friendship between the three countries.

According to General Sao Sokha, with a long history, the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has brought peace and good life to the people of the two countries.

He believed that the three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia were once colonies of the French colonialists, so none of the three countries could have achieved independence alone. It was the solidarity in the fighting alliance between the three peoples that helped Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia overcome the yoke of domination and gain freedom and independence.

Referring to the historic event of April 30, 1975, General Sao Sokha said that this victory was a testament to the historical value of friendship between the three neighboring countries. According to him, this was not only Vietnam’s victory, but also a common victory for the entire Indochina region.

The Commander of the Cambodian Gendarmerie Command said that lessons from the past show that it is thanks to the friendship and solidarity among the three nations, as well as with peace-loving forces in the world , that Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos have overcome the most difficult times.

General Sao Sokha affirmed that during the war, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia needed mutual support and assistance to gain independence; and in peacetime, the three countries need to continue to cooperate to maintain peace and achieve sustainable development.

Taking a practical example in the economic field, General Sao Sokha said that Vietnam is using many Cambodian goods and vice versa, which shows that the economic cooperation between the two countries is extremely practical and effective.

In the context of globalization, General Sao Sokha emphasized that no nation can exist in isolation, and said that multilateralism is the right way to deal with the challenges of the modern world.

He called for not forgetting the historical lesson of sincere friendship between nations, considering it the "key" to solving problems and challenges arising in the present and future.
