67 years ago, on April 1, 1958, the Hoa Binh Socialist Youth Labor School (now the Hoa Binh Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities) was established on the basis of a construction site where youth both worked and studied culture.

With its innovative training model, the school has attracted a large number of ethnic youth in Hoa Binh province to participate.

In 1962, Uncle Ho visited and worked with the school's staff, teachers and students.

The school bears the mark of Uncle Ho's teachings

On April 1, 1958, the first course of the Hoa Binh Socialist Labor Youth School opened in Rong Vong hamlet, Lam Son commune, Luong Son district (Hoa Binh).

The school's goal is to use production labor to self-sufficiently study, through study and labor to train young people to become new socialist people; to educate and train young people of Hoa Binh ethnic groups from 16 years old and up, to train them to become a new labor force, with good ideology, culture, technique, and health to be the core of cooperatives, and a reserve youth force for training movement cadres.

During the years 1958-1961, teachers and students of the Hoa Binh Socialist Labor Youth School competed day and night in labor and study at the construction sites of Road No. 6, Road 12B, Road 24 and the Hoa Binh - Thinh Lang Irrigation Project.

In 1962, the school had 1,155 students who were young people of various ethnic groups: Muong, Kinh, Thai, Tay, Dao, Mong.

The school's leadership expanded the scale with 6 branches so that students could both study and grow crops and raise livestock . Each branch was assigned 100-160 hectares of land.

With the labor and knowledge equipped, initially, the school's staff, teachers and students have solved their minimum needs for food, accommodation and study. In addition, the school has accumulated some capital and paid taxes to the State.

The school's method of both studying and working clearly demonstrates a new and very special training model: a classroom is also a production unit, a youth union branch is a militia platoon.

On August 17, 1962, the Hoa Binh Socialist Labor Youth School was honored to welcome Uncle Ho to visit. During the visit, Uncle Ho spoke with over 400 leaders of Hoa Binh province at all levels and over 1,200 cadres, teachers and students of the school.

At the talk, Uncle Ho taught: "This school teaches young people to both study and work, which is very good. They should study professions that are directly related to agricultural and rural production such as: farming, animal husbandry, forestry... In the past, when I was young, I worked in France, both working and studying, but at that time, labor was slave labor for the imperialists. I had to do that to earn a living, but still spent time studying, working during the day and studying at night, because I did not go to school. Therefore, I advise you to work well to become socialist workers."

He also requested that Hoa Binh province make sure that every district has a school that combines studying and working. The school's golden book still bears Uncle Ho's bold handwriting with the teaching: "Must: Study well, work well; try hard, progress forever."

President Ho Chi Minh's teachings have become the goal of not only the school's staff, teachers and students but also the goal of the Party Committee and people of all ethnic groups in Hoa Binh province.

Red address for revolutionary tradition education

With a long tradition and outstanding achievements, in 1985, the school was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of Labor by the State Council.

Ms. Quach Thi Kieu, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hoa Binh province, said that the historical and cultural relic of the place where Uncle Ho visited the Hoa Binh Socialist Labor Youth School (in Yen Mong commune, Hoa Binh city) is a proud "red address" of the Party Committee, government and people in the province, a special mark in the history of construction and development of the Education and Training sector of Hoa Binh, and at the same time a place to educate revolutionary traditions for young generations.

During the process of construction and development, the Hoa Binh Socialist Youth Labor School and later, since 1991, renamed the Hoa Binh Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, was honored to welcome many Party and State leaders to visit such as: First Secretary of the Party Central Committee Le Duan; Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, General Secretary Do Muoi, National Assembly Chairman Nong Duc Manh, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An... and many leaders of other ministries and branches.

Promoting the heroic tradition, Hoa Binh Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities has now achieved noble awards and titles such as: First Class Labor Medal, Third Class Independence Medal and many certificates of merit, emulation flags of the Provincial People's Committee, Ministry of Education and Training. The school has been recognized as meeting national standards since 2010.

Many engineers, masters, doctors, teachers, leaders and managers at all levels and sectors, many military officers... come from the Hoa Binh Socialist Labor Youth School.

Many former students of the school after graduating from university have returned to work at the school, as teachers or school leaders, continuing to promote the spirit and character of previous generations./.
